Since you asked, the 3500 was one of the candidates I was considering for my overdrive swap. I had driven a truck with that transmission and liked it. As my truck is a 60, it already had a hydraulic clutch from the factory, so that was a non-issue. The deal-breaker for me was the mounts/crossmember, and also I didn't want to give up my bellhousing-mounted starter, which is MUCH less problematic than a block-mounted one. I ended up with a T-5, which hasn't given me any trouble so far, but it's not as strong as the 3500 and puts a limit on any major engine upgrades if I actually expect to use the added power. All I have now is a stock 305. Ray |

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
Don't listen to the V8 guys they're all haters lol. Seriously though I have the same set-up and its great. I got my motor out now doing a rebuild and a few mods. My friend, when I was in high school, had a 68 camaro with a 250 and a 4 spd and he used to smoke 5.0 mustangs daily. He had Clifford parts on his so I guess thats why I prefer Clifford over Offy, but I'm sure its probably all the same. After you get some split headers and dual exhaust on it and you will never go V8. Good luck and have fun!

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
My neighbors puting an ls1 in his '87 chevy and he told me i can have the 350 that was in it......for free!!!!! Now I REALLY don't know what to do. If I went with the 350, I'd like to get it bored and stroked to a 383 and that way I could get loads of hp out of it and those wind up very fast. I'm thinking that if I could get at least 450 out of a 383 for a price comparable to that of rebuilding and hopping up a 292 a little, then why not? Everything is soooo much more expensive for that L6 than it'd be for this. Please let me know your thoughts.

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
A LITTLE bit different, but here's a couple videos of my old mans OHC6 that was a 250 stroked to 300. Sounds RANK at idle! Like clifford says 6=8! He blows the doors off my brothers LT1 Impala!

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
I have a book on hot rodding the 292. I no longer have my 292 (swapped it for a Mercedes diesel) so I no longer need the book. I'd be happy to send it to you if you'll pay shipping.

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
Well, something different, something ez to work on, sez 292 in my book, but I am biased. Sure, hop up parts are more $, lil harder to find, but I think they are more reliable too. Replace a head on an 8 and you are even.If that above mentioned book is..Leo Santucci, I may have that name wrong, it's worth picking up. Not too many L6 hot rod books out there. Now having said that, there is no replacement for displacement. If you want HP, you will get more out of that 350, easier. Whichever way you go, good luck and have fun!

Wait a sec...a Merc diesel? How'd that work out for you? First conversion of that into a C10 I've ever heard of.

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
I'd like to have that book if he doesn't take it. I'm rebuilding my six as we speak and it might come in handy. I know it was offered to him first and I don't want to step on toes but I am interested so keep me in mind.

Re: Straight 6 or V8??
I've seen someone else post this, and I think it's fitting in this case.
When I finish my truck I'm buying one of these to put in front of it at shows.
