Re: to cut, or not to cut: that is the question
Don't cut. What about mounting a head unit to the bottom of the dash, under the ignition switch? The stock location in the middle isn't the most handy place for a radio anyway.

Just a peice of machined billet that fills the oval area and then the radio mounts to that.(Someone here was making/selling them...pretty sure not anymore) I have a link to a couple threads on my home computer. I will post them when I get home.

Re: to cut, or not to cut: that is the question
I bought mine already cut and I'm glad it was so that I don't have to pay to have it cut out. I'd not worry about it at all. I know I would never let the radio hole keep me from buying a nice truck.

Re: to cut, or not to cut: that is the question
I think we should be talking about a "trim" then......as a "cut" like that isn't necessary.
Its all about preperation...and the skills of the person with the cutting tool....

Re: to cut, or not to cut: that is the question
Does anyone know of a install kit that could be used to mount the deck in a cut out dash? I thought I had seen one that made that had a metal cage behind the opening and made the install appear more a professional look. Hmm?

For those looking for a billet surround or mounting plate. I have this one sitting here, haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

Re: to cut, or not to cut: that is the question
Don't cut it...but i'm a traditionalist. that's not to say I would never do a mod, but cutting the dash, in my view, is like cutting the heart and soul. Yeeeeeeeeears ago, i put a standard Alpine stereo in my '72. I'm just glad I still have the original radio shrinkwrapped in my garage, with the dash in tact.

Re: to cut, or not to cut: that is the question
i think it depends on what your gonna do with the truck. if your going full custom, build a console and put it in there. if not, cut the dash up. no realy big deal to me, actually i think its a plus if someone else is going to buy it, they wont have to worry about it then
unless the truck is completely original, that would be the only thing holding me back. just do it right and dont hack it like the pictures above...
