Thank you. That is the "barn" on a piece of property that we have. It's about 80 miles from my house. |

Re: aka "Bubba"
Dropped off the parts for powder today. Should get them back by Friday. Hopefully get to button up everything on the chassis except the fuel line sometime next week. Going to the show at Market Hall this weekend so probably won't get anything done on the truck this weekend.

Re: aka "Bubba"
Well, my cab is at the paint shop for them to start doing the body work and prepping for the bed liner to go on the bottom side. I'll still be doing some sheetmetal work on it while they work on it as well. They are also working on the bedsides so hopefully we're headed in the right direction with paint and body.

Re: aka "Bubba"
Ok guys, I made a pretty stupid mistake and now I'm paying for it and need a little info.
My truck has had the BB in it for a while but I was using SB mounts, stock trans (6" tailshaft) and stock (as far as I can tell) 2 piece drive shaft. Now I have the 72 BB mount's, new TH350 but same 6" tailshaft, and the problem I have now is that the front driveshaft is about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" too long. Other factors are the CPP totally tubular trailing arm setup with crossmember. One other note is that the CPP trans cross member doesn't line up with the stock mounting holes (about 3" back) but CPP says it's not a direct replacement so I don't expect it to line up. I guess after all that rambling the question is, is there a difference in the length of the drive shaft(s) in a 1/2 ton LWB with BB versus the SB? |

Re: aka "Bubba"
Hello all. Been out of the game for a while but hoping to jump back in soon. Life seems to sneak up on ya when you least expect it to and it's done it to me again. Dad fell off of some scaffolding about 6 weeks ago, broke his hip, pelvis and right arm so he's gonna be down a while. He's 70 but in real good shape so he should recover well. Hadn't done anything with the project for a few months prior to the accident either so we're WAY behind where we wanted to be by now and any progress will be slow for a while.
Cab is still in the body shop and has not been touched since I dropped it off. I'm going to try to go get it this week or next and work on it myself a little. I did pick up another parts truck recently. Now I need to review where I was so I know where to get started back since I've slept a time or two since I worked on it last. I do still have the drive shaft issue to deal with first I guess. I'm not real sure what's going on there. I'm having a hard time believing that a BB would sit farther back in the engine bay but it sure is looking like it's supposed to be that way. I need to get the 72 BB perches and mounts back in and set the cab back on to make sure my intake and distributor will be ok with it sitting back that much farther. If anyone has any input on the placement of the BB in a 72 or driveshaft lengths or anything else that may point me in the right direction, I'd love to hear it. Thanks. |

Re: aka "Bubba"
There should not be a difference in the Drive Shaft from BB to SB. I have a 68 LWB with a BB, so if I can help with some measurements I will try. Are you 72 BB mounts the clam shell type? Also what type carrier bearing do you have?

Would it be possible for you to give me measurements on your shafts? I'll start there and see where that takes me. Thanks |

Re: aka "Bubba"
Thanks Oldskewl. Not real sure yet on progress. We're just getting back to the truck after dad's accident. He's doing great and healed well, we just had a ton of other stuff to catch up on since he was down for a while. Body shop is finally working on the cab, after doing nothing with it for over a year and chassis is just about complete, less a few odds and ends. We're shooting for October but if we make it by the end of the year we'll be in pretty good shape.

This will be my first of these carriers but I've heard a little good and bad on them. The guy that built the drive shaft for me said one of his customers went through 5 or 6 of them before they got one that didn't cause a vibration. I didn't want to be rude but it sounded more like something other than the carrier to me. The guy knows his stuff though so I guess it's possible. |

Re: aka "Bubba"
Yea mines a custom shaft too. I do get a Lil vibration on take off but only when I'm Layin on ground an I thought maybe it was be cause of ang of everything with all the travel I've got. I've tried adj pinion ang but hasn't helped . I just figured hell atleast I'm not braking **** ... 350 tbi roller motor pretty stock so she's it a runner .. I had thought about having a straight shaft built but went with a teliscopic instead. You in the Dallas area

Re: aka "Bubba"
Oldskewl, I'm in Carrollton (N Dallas).
I went by the body shop last week and told the guys they needed to get busy on my truck or I was coming to get it. So we went back over what I wanted them to do and they said they would get right on it. Well I wasn't holding my breath since I'd heard it before in the year plus that they've had the cab. Well, I stopped by there yesterday and they were actually working on my cab. UNBELIEVABLE! The guy working on it tells me how much welding he had to do, so I asked why (I welded all of the sheet metal in). He says, because whoever ground the welds down went too far and the sheet metal was really thin. I said, that's interesting, because that's the ONLY thing you guys have done since the cab's been here is grind the welds. I told the shop owner I wasn't paying for that time cause it was there fault, he says, well if you hadn't built the welds up so much. WRONG! I said, you know as well as I do that those welds were better than your guys do any day and you know that's not what the problem was. He says, ok you're right. (he is a buddy of mine and he knows better ) Anyway, here are a few pics. |
