Re: 1961 GMC Project. Only a 3/4ton of work
Here are some puzzling steps...
The person I bought it from shot 1 side of the bed with white primer with no prep? There are areas of paint flaking with fresh primer that I now have to remove. The front was rattle canned with a gloss white also without prep? From reading what Surfdaddy was doing he was going about it in a smart way. That is what I plan to continue. Looking for an original look and feel. I will be coming up with questions for you talented vets. |

Re: 1961 GMC Project. Only a 3/4ton of work
Here are some recent photos of how I found it. You will be able to see why I was confused on what the PO was doing. The front end was partially painted but the fenders were not even fully bolted on? The bed side was shot with base white and the trim re-installed but there was no prep. I guess I should be happy that the bumper, tailgate latch and taillight bezel were not blasted. Body wise my current goal is to get it all base coated white and re-evaluate after that. First is to get the lighting all working again and back on the road. Look at that tailgate. That is the original!

The auxiliary fuel tank still had fuel from who knows when. Smells more like a cabinet shop than fuel. Definitely varnish.
The front and is coming along. I had to place and drill for the V6 emblems as these are replacement fenders off of something that did not have them. |

We have made some progress on the truck. I need to get the hood metalwork done for a show in February.

Here is the same truck how it was used for over 30 years.
