Re: My 85 Crew Cab Diesel Build: Project Haus

Got the chassis back from the blasters. I am going to prime it tonight and give it a couple days to cure good. Then it'll get some semi gloss black chassis paint before it goes back under the cab. I hope to have the cab media blasted and primed soon as well.

Re: My 85 Crew Cab Diesel Build: Project Haus

The chassis is primed and will get painted this weekend at the latest. I think I am also going to use some Herculiner bed liner to do the underside of the cab. I need something that'll clean up the look from the bottom and also give me some sound deadning qualities as well. Going to Dynamat the inside of the cab too so that should help alot as well. Anyone had any experience with other undercoating options? Good or bad?

Re: My 85 Crew Cab Diesel Build: Project Haus

Chassis is painted with Bill Hirsch Chassis Paint and is now back under the cab! I stripped the bottom of the cab and scuffed every nook and cranny before covering it in 8 cans of Duplicolor Professional Undercoating. It turned out great! Now that the cab and chassis are back together I will have to get the suspension together so she will be a roller again and start on the body work. Heres some pics!

Re: My 85 Crew Cab Diesel Build: Project Haus

I had my brother help me stand it on its back and then lay it back down once I was finished with the undercoating. I move the chassis around on dollys. Alot of my lifting, etc is done the hard way since most of my neighbors are older and cant lift much. Its amazing what you can lift with a 10 foot long
2x6! Leverage is your friend.

Re: My 85 Crew Cab Diesel Build: Project Haus

Ya know man, I'm not totally sure yet. I love these trucks in white and black of course, but have been thinking lately of a darker burgandy or a charcoal grey. I'm not sure man, this has been the hardest part of this build, picking the darn color! I guess I have to consider the interior colors too. I wanted to do the interior in grey or tan but doing what we do for a living I am leaning torwards black interior. Figured burgandy or charcoal would be good with black interior. Also, my 47rh turned out to be a gasser 47re so I am going to keep an eye out for an A518 or 47rh with adapter plate and flywheel, converter, etc. in a 2wd flavor so I can still use my divorced t-case.

I just so happened to find a 47rh V10 and a A518 2wd diesel trans this week. If I get them I'll let you know.

Re: My 85 Crew Cab Diesel Build: Project Haus

Well, this has been sitting at a buddy of mines house since the whole deal with the 07 Crew Cab burning up. It was supposed to be brought back to my place this weekend but the tornadoes decided dropping a tree on the cab was a better idea.... So, this one is a gonner, going to start looking for another rust free crew cab to build now. If anyone has or knows of a good
4x4 crew cab roller or complete truck please shoot me a PM or a link. Thanks fellas.

Sorry to hear about your buddy and poor luck with the cab. It'll be all the cooler of a build when it's all said and done. Best of luck.
