You can solder or use butt connectors to attach the resistor (solder is best) but either way use some heat shrink tubing to protect it from short circuit. So you end up with one end of the wire attached to the pink wire the other end of that wire would be attached to one end of the resistor then a second wire is attached to the other end of the resistor with the other end of that wire connected to terminal 1 of the alt (that would make the resistor wired in series with the #1 terminal). The resistor will get hot (just like a light bulb will so tie it off loosely.

Did you do the above? Just adding a resistor wont make power present, you either need to trace the existing wire in the cab or run a new one as outlined above. I prefer to fix the circuit rather than running a new circuit but you said ealier you didn't have time to trace the problem so I suggested tapping into the pink wire off of the ignition switch, below I highlighted the circuit in red.

Re: Wiring for dummies

Yea i did that. I finally found the problem. It was a loose wire. I tightend it and all is well. Thank you all so much for your help. I am glad there are smart people here that have the patience for the ignorant like me. Bless you all.

Re: Wiring for dummies

Do I really need the junction stud? I can't find one anywhere. I tried OSH, napa, autozone, o'reilieys and no one has one.
