Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

We don't know how to pronounce it because we are 'guys'. Any color beyond the basic crayola 8 is unknown to us. We use one of the basic 8 to describe anything outside the box. i.e., Mustard Yellow, Baby Puke Yellow, etc...
If you know more color names than that you gotta question whether you should be driving a truck.

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

I always think of Ochre (always pronounced it Oaker) as being more of a red colour, probably on account of exploring a lot of old iron mines when I was in the scouts and coming up covered in red ochre mud, stained pretty well too, my old sleeping bag had a nice pink tint to the inside top due to that stuff.

All us northern boys get our Okra at Cracker Barrel. It's on the menu of side orders. Since I'm from Missouri I am very familiar with it. LOL

Yep Oak-ra where I came from. When trying to describe to my friends or family I just call it "calf **** brown" if you grew up on a farm, you know what I'm talking about. (I hope this auto edits itself!)

Re: How do you pronounce 'orche'?

Brett Favre is from the south, I bet he often eats okra, he might even have an Ochre colored truck. If he cut down Oak trees does that make him an Oaker? Ok I'm done now...By the way anybody see the Bob Ross when he had the squirrel in is shirt pocket while he painted, now thats talent!!!

Now that's a name that throws me off. How the heck do you get "Farv" outta that when the "V" is in front of the "R"???? Maybe we should be pronouncing ochre as "ORK"!!

It doesn't matter where you live,it's pronounced oak-er. The dang word is French, fer cryin' out loud! I'd just start saying it the right way rather than boast how I've always said it wrong. Those of you who say it wrong now can say you leaned something here. I'm not trying to make waves here, but it's just plain that simple. There's only one way to say ochre.

The OP didn't ask for correct pronunciation, he asked how each person here pronounces it.

Your OPINION is noted.

Thanks guys for pointing out what the OP asked (and I already realized that). The point I was making is,now that anyone who pronounced it wrong before reading this thread, now knows the correct way and don't have any reason to pronounce it wrong.
