Re: Triple Down
INstalled the new 4" drop springs and KYB gas-adjust shocks. Have to to everything with a breaker bar for the impact wrench did not pack enough punch. That was a difficult project but got it finished.

Re: Triple Down
Spent my weekend on a 12 hour round trip to visit Rick at Chevy Metal and picked up a 5 lug leaf rear end out of a 71. This was the half way point!

Re: Triple Down
Had the truck up on a lift getting a quote on exhaust so I had to snap a few pics. You can see the 4" drop leaf kit all put together.

Re: Triple Down
Stage one of the the five lug swap. Drilled and slotted Silver zinc rotors, EBC Green Stuff pads, and all Timken bearings. Cleaned and painted everything with the new ceramic caliper paint. I think it looks good. So good thought I would try out my new wheels!
Bearings used: A5 or Set5 A2 or Set2 9015S |

Re: Triple Down
Thanks Guys.
Just added another tiedown point. Putting this in was kind of a bear. Have to go in through the taillight wiring hole and use the back of my two fingers to get the nuts started and had to use my custom bend distributor wrench to tighten it all down, even with enlarging the hole, but now it should put up to a lot of stress. The newspaper is not old insulation but protecting the wires from paint. |

Re: Triple Down
Here is what has been tying me up lately, Crate V8 S10 PU. Love this motor, it is the 330HP GM small block and would love to put it in the '69 but just can't bring myself to do it to the little truck. I hope somebody buys it before I do something crazy.

Re: Triple Down
Back on topic for a bit. Leaving town again soon so trying to get done what I can while I have time.
Finished the 5 lug swap, with new axles, brakes, bearings, and seals in the rear. Getting the old bearing out can be a real pain. Tore the first one apart trying to get it out but after renting the tool it was a little bit smoother. After two tries and 3 months of waiting, finnally got the new wheels from American Racing. Went with BFG's because they had the smoothest side wall so they did not conflict with the wheels. Still think she needs to come down a bit. Last edited by Hard Luck; 08-28-2012 at 11:35 PM. |

Re: Triple Down
I don't know the meaning of over doing it. Figured since the dash was already butchered is was a natural to put in a more modern deck. Well, there was some thick orange peel on the pass side that needed to be taken down. Well, there was also some chips so better sand that all down too. Dash is all torn apart waiting for a repaint tomorrow.

Re: Triple Down
Cool, thanks!
Lets see..Installed and removed 9 headers...still trying to find a set that fits. Shortys - 69648 - Fits 67-72 C20-C30 but not C10, kicks out to the side too much and hit frame, collector is in "C" channel, not ideal Tri-Y's - no part number - Fit beautiful on the driver's side, pass side only hit; 1. frame 2. Brake Line 3. Starter 4. Cross Member 5. Lower A-Arm 6. Trans Cooler Lines and the outlet points toward the flex plate cover Mid Length - 68600 - fits Camaros and Chevelle - both front tubes hit upper engine stand offs, pass side a bit worse Full Length - 69890 - Fits 67-87 C10- Pass side fits but hangs about 4" under frame, could not even get driver's side installed with almost everything removed The copper colored ones are what I started with and the set that is going back in. Hedman has a new Mid Length - 69016 - that no one stocks yet but they tell me they used an actual truck for fitment. The pass side looks good but the driver's side looks like it might drop a bit too soon. We'll see, if I can find a set. |

Ha, Thanks.
Had a buddy go down there and get it for me. Never driven a new crate motor before. Man that was fun! Hope I get to do that again someday. |
