Re: Porterbuilt bolt-in IFS subframe for 55-59

I can't get over how nice this truck looks. I wish I could afford this kit. Would solve my straight axle problems. I have a friend with arms, spindles from a 67-72 so I was thinking about getting the crossmember to start with.

^yes^...always an issue that needs addressed. This unit looks to have it "dead nuts on" as my pops would put it.

I like the idea of a package, things would work well together that way.

Re: Porterbuilt bolt-in IFS subframe for 55-59

Any plans to make the stock-height sub frame coil spring compatible?
Might make life easier to build the 57 a street rod & buy a C10 for hauling things...
but maybe I can get the best of both?

Re: Porterbuilt bolt-in IFS subframe for 55-59

I am running a C-10 front clip on my pickup, I am about to order my A arms from Nate now that I am back on the truck. I have my 55 suburban to do next and this setup is exactly what I want for it.
How far from stock width does this front end (complete) bring the overall track width?

Will the rack and pinion be a more centered (other side of frame rail) input or conennection?
this is an issue I have with running my C-10 clip as the steering box is highly offset from the steering column.
Nate, I will call you due to having a few more questions for you.

Re: Porterbuilt bolt-in IFS subframe for 55-59

I have a loaded question. I have been looking at so many different frame upgrade options for my 59' GMC long bed. How do these compare to some of the other majors like Art Morrison etc... I see so many of trucks done with Porterbuilt stuff in the mags so I know its gotta be great stuff. I am just curious how the ride/handling compares. I really am impressed with the Poterbuilt stuff from what I have seen in pictures.

#2 Also I plan on putting a little over 400 horses to my truck. Will my stock frame with these suspension upgrades handle it? Do I HAVE to box it?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Dave-

Question 2 is an easy one.... 400 HP is no problem with the factory frame. Boxing wouldn't be necessary, but you could add a couple crossmembers for peace of mind. We will have some more options for our kit come first of the year, and the additional crossmembers will be available.

Question 1... I am not all too familiar with the "other" brand suspension kits for these trucks. Hopefully some other guys will chime in with some more info. and feedback.

Our kits ride and handle great both on air or with the coil-overs. This first release is our "extreme" version with air bags. It's designed to ride low and be able to go all the way down to the pavement. If you aren't interested in such an extreme drop, we will have mild variations available early next year.

The Porterbuilt site doesn't list any details for this 55-59 set up, anyone know the hub to hub track width?

With a CPP modular spindle it sets you right at 60" rotor face to rotor face.

I am working on a few other things that are currently at a higher priority. It is something that won't get bumped up on the list until we start getting some more requests for it.

Have you gotten enough requests for it yet?
