Rust repair is one thing, but someone elses bad mess like that is an unreal job! Will be fun to watch how it goes.

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
The repair work that has been done here is horrid. I dont understand how some people think its ok to do some things. Im glad your taking this project and so far it appears doing it correctly. Im just glad its not me. I would had gotten another cab by now. Good luck!

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
There's some serious explanations that would need to be heard from the PO but we aren't here to bash him the entire thread it's not what the board is about no matter how much we all want too. Lets just all be in agreeable of how awesome a true RHD is and that we are thankful Russ is going to take real good care of her from now on. Russ you are doing an incredible job of documentation on this truck and I'm very thrilled EVERYTIME to see progress on this beauty, I wish you the best on getting her all blasted and cleaned up so that it makes it that much easier on your repair work.

The RHD dimmer switch placement is very odd. On our vehicles of this era, the switch was at the base of the firewall, just to the side of the clutch. Your legs already extended and right there. Perfect placement. I'd say that'd be true for LHD trucks in the US. Why they though that spot on the RHD trucks was worthwhile? I don't know. But that's what the manual says. Quote:

Cheers! The "repairs" are mind-boggling. If you look at the pieces welded in on the side of the firewall/pillar, it's not even proper gauge sheet-metal. It looks/feels like thin sheets of tin. A lot of them are perfectly rounded at one end, so I'm pretty sure they've used a bunch of scraps & off-cuts from something else rather than spend $100 on a new sheet of metal. Thankfully the firewall front is solid, and on this truck, it's the most valuable piece. No patches, and doesn't look thin anywhere. That is something I'm very thankful for. If it wasn't for the RHD firewall, I probably would have just bought a new cab. |

I might be a day late and a dollar short but I'm subscribed anyways. If there is any more, I'd like to see it.

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
There will be more mate, I just have to get to it.
I'm waiting on the replacement body panels (cab floor, fenders, inner fenders, radiator support), but being in Australia I have to have them sent by sea. That will take at least 2 months. Once they get here I can then send the truck to the blasters, then straight on to the body-shop and get it all sorted in one hit - rather than going back and forth from storage to blasters to storage to body shop and so on. |

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
I hear you there. When I lived in Germany I wanted badly to bring Rocinante over but between the cost and time it would take, by the time I would have received my truck, it would have been time to leave. I am interested in seeing what Wrongside will look like all gussied up, I'll stay tuned for sure.

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
Small update, but a good one (for me at least).
Have had the C10 on hold as I've had to get the 327 in my '67 Impala rebuilt. The machine work has been done and paid for, so now I can get back to spending my money on the C10. I've finally placed an order for some replacement sheet-metal to get the body-work underway:
Being in Australia, it will be a couple months before I see them - but the order is placed, so that's a good thing. Also, since I've got the next week off work, I thought it a good time to start cleaning the smaller things, and re-painting them as needed. Starting with the original carby intake and exhaust manifolds. Once done, I'll be panting them with KBS Extreme Temp paint. Will do one in cast iron grey, and the other in satin black. I have a small pot sandblaster, but I hate the mess, so I decided to give the electrolysis bath a try. So far so good. Will update tomorrow with how the turned out. |

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
Wow Russ! you have a very interesting truck there. I look forward to following along with your build.
I have done a bunch of rust repair on my cab too. It can be very time consuming. But as you said, well worth all the work in the end. Subscribed.... |

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
The right hand drive is awesome. I love the " Dare to be Different" or having something unusual or rare. I thought I had seen rust damage and shoddy repairs but your project is over the top. It's awesome that you are going to save this truck. Keep up the great work. You tackling this project is an inspiration,

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
Finally an update of sorts. After a fair bit of procrastination on my part, a couple months back I ordered some replacement panels from LMC that had to come via shipping container. They arrived this week and I picked them up today.
New radiator support and filler panel: Complete new floor: New fenders, both sides: New inner fenders, both sides: Have a few more body parts need. Cab corners, outer rocker panels, and will wait until the hood and doors are blasted before I decided if they're repairable or replaceable. Will start organising the media blasting and panel shop now, so I can get stuck into it. |

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
More parts have arrived from LMC.
Got new cab corners and outer rocker panels: Rad support to fender brackets: Complete body mount kit: Been slow goings up until now due to money, but I recently sold my 19170 Dodge Challenger, so the parts buying and work can begin. I always intended to wait until I had the bulk of the needed parts, especially the body panels, before I started as once I got started, I didn't want to stop. Now the Dodge is sold, that can happen a lot sooner. Also placed an order for a 2.5" front disc conversion from ECE, which should be here next week. Depending how they're book and their operating hours over the holidays, the frame and cab should be in for blasting in a fortnight. |

Re: "Wrongside" - 1967 Right-hand Drive C10
Had nothing to do today so I pulled the head off the 250 to get a quick look. There's so much crap on the outside of this thing I was wandering what the inside looked like.

Got the motor and trans pulled today. Draining the trans oil so I didn't make a mess of the floor: Bought a hoist and grabbed a couple sheets of ply to help with the 2 drops at the front of the shed. They're about an inch each and I needed something so the hoist could be moved smoothly. Worked like a charm. Never pulled and engine before, and wasn't sure what to expect - turned out the be the easiest thing I've had to do on this truck Also had to buy some new tyres for the front. The previous set were silly low-pro things the previous owners used off a go-kart. The problem with them is they were so low, the lower rails of the hoist wouldn't fit under there. 2 new 255/75/15's for the front, and it was good to go. Nothing under the hood of this thing isn't completely caked in filth. That's 1 more thing ticked off the list. Slowly getting there. |
