Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
The price for the car is without rims, tires, doors, trunk, transmission. Which is fine with me, I know have a tilt sterring columb, power brake master cylinder, front clip, reared, emergency brake pedal assembly, etc...

I have been working on it the last couple days pulling all the parts off and just this afternoon got the front clip out.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
My next step is to clean out my tiny...and I mean tiny garage to start pulling the truck apart. I do plan on shortening the bed so if I cut about 6" off the rear frame, it will fit in the garage. And it's about 10' wide. I figure if I back it in, I can open the garage. Door and have enough room to work around the front end for this swap. Just got to deal with what I got at this point with the garage. Lol!

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I left the crap engine in to account for the suspension ride height when it's time to measure ride height and all that jazz. I'm undecided if I'm going to do this the "Hamb" way or this way....
I'm pretty sure I got this picture from somewhere on this forum a while age when researching front end swaps. |

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Kim, thanks! I really lucked out but I had been looking for a while.
I got my garage cleaned out and even found the Xmas decorations! Tonight after I got home from work, me and my little bud tackled taking off the bed and some of the front sheet metal. Tomorrow I hope to have a friend drop off a cherry picker, so I can pull the engine and trans soon.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Looks about the size of the garage I had when I was in the Navy. I worked on and painted a bunch of cars in it. You just have to get creative sometimes to get it done.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I'm very great full for the garage I have because when I grew up in Montana, all I had was a carport with snow, freezing temps and all that goodness.
I do wish it was bigger, but I will make it work. Now I'm in Florida, so no freezing cold this time working on the truck The pics a little deceiving, you will see once I get it in there all the way! Haha it's going to have 1/2" clearance on each end with garage door closed.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I'm going to shorten the bed a bit... This is a real quick rendition of what I'm thinking about doing but would like some input...

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I think you need to take some out of the front also.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I'm with Kim57...if you are going to take that much out of the back you need to take some out of the front. They you need to shorten the frame. If you take less out of the back it might look ok.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
X3!! Not taking most of it out of the front will throw the proportions of the truck off. There are several build threads that show how to do this.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Thanks a lot chuck driver! BTW- those C17's are SWEET! Saw a bunch of them recently.
I got the truck completely tore apart and was waiting on a friend who offered to lend me a engine hoist but it's been about a month and after a couple unanswered phone calls I got the point he doesn't feel like lending it anymore. All well... Just ordered a 1 ton engine hoist from HF for $99 sale coupon and free shipping. (Xmas present from wife). And also just ordered some needed brake line flex hoses, power steering pressure line, and an assortment of brake stuff. Advanced auto parts right now has a deal that if you buy $100 or more in parts they will take 20% off..... And send you a coupon for $50 off your next order over $100. Pretty good deal if you ask me, that's how I talked my wife into it, it pretty much saved $75 since I ordered a little more than $100. So here it sits awaiting an engine hoist...
