Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Getting ready to do a short bed conversion so with the bed and rear cross member already out it was time to get everything leveled up. I put the truck up on blocks under the front cross member (can't have to many blocks of wood around) and and jack stands just in front of the rear cab mounts. Leveled it with a clear tube of water and then up front tack welded rebar uprights to the bumper brackets. Under the rear of the cab I shimmed the jack stands so everything is true and level. Next I'll do some plumb lines, then I should be ready to starting cutting.

Still sitting out in the garage until warm weather comes back. To old to crawl around on a cold floor anymore.

As much as I want a bigger shop my little one with a low ceiling gets above 70 degrees real easy with a wood stove. When I do have a bigger shop some day I will miss the little in the winters.

Finally got the tailgate panel & trim installed on the tailgate today. Some before & after pics. Had to do something to cover up that hideous bondo job the PO thought at the time was cool to do a smooth tailgate.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Went to another junkyard and found an oem air cleaner and 8 lug wheels (white 16x 6.5) and hubcaps from a 72 suburban. After I left, I got my truck and put the wheels on to see if they would fit. They did like a glove. However the hubcaps...not even close on the rear. It didnt even cross my mind that the axles might be different. I found only 1 hubcap from 69 that fit my 3/4 ton. I found tons of 1/2 ton and later hubcaps. One down three to go...

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Thanks Ole. It just seems to take some time & money to get these to where you can enjoy driving them. Next plan of attack will be installing the new dash, which means I've got to remove the radio, gauge cluster & glovebox liner. That will be a fun time.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Got my Gas door made & installed in my bed. Because my wood is not in the greatest shape, I made this unit in pieces. When I replace the wood I will make a 1 piece sheet metal drop in. What nice about this system is that you can see your gas level by just taking off the cap, also very easy to fill with no back splash.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
It was in the truck when I got it, Stainless tank with a side angle fill Which I didn't Like. I have looked on line & can't find the maker, might be a custom. Stainless is very hard to work with when drilling & hole saw. Tank is 10 inches deep & holds 20 gallons.

I've never seen a cut like that before or in this location. What are your plans?
