Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Got to have your priorities straight. The truck isn't going anywhere, it will be there when you have the time for it. Good seeing you at DuQuoin last weekend.

Spend every second you can with your dad while you can! That is something you will never regret.

Good seeing you to Fred. Next year I am going to be sure to bring lawn chairs along. I will let the rides come to me...... ! I was surprised that their was only a handful of 1960 - 66's there.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Wow Congrats on your truck, I'm kinda Partial to them six's. I just put a 292 in my truck, I must say I've never seen that much crudy rust in an engine unless it got wet or a lot of moisture, In one of the engine pictures was front the valve cover dented, I was just thinking that maybe that engine was put in there and the reason the plugs were out they were trying maybe to free it up. Maybe the engine got wet they didn't know it... Anywho that's a KOOL truck to find in that shape and untouched.....

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Wow, I like this truck. I even like the old mud grip tires on the back. Definitely an original, and getting harder and harder to find. You weren't kidding when you said very little rust. As mentioned before I think you will be surprised how nicely this truck will clean up. Good luck with the motor and enjoy your time with your Dad.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Well, maybe next year you can do something about that. Then you will have somewhere to put your lawn chairs and coolers.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Just an update... finished shed. Have been gathering some parts, got in new stainless brake lines, and just ordered wiring upgrades from MAD Enterprises. My father has went really down hill, he will have hospice starting this week. Hope to start on truck this fall. I am wanting to get it pulled out of the garage and pressure washed underneath before cold weather sets in.
FYI IMPORTANT !! friend of ours is into mudding... anyhow pulled an old truck into his shop to work on. He opened the hood and was tinkering around, and got bit by a 4ft timber rattler on the thumb. Luckily he was wearing gloves and only one fang got him, but he still is in the hospital. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE !

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Glad you spent some time with him and have your priorities in line. Shed looks good, can't wait to see this thing driving, once all your other stuff is taken care of.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
...... it has began, finally ! Today I started by pulling the 66' out and cleaning it up, and cleaning the underneath side. I hate to have all that dirt falling on me when working. Bed turned out awesome for being 48 yrs. old !
Thursday friend of mine is coming up, we are going to pull the gas tank to clean out the old gas.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Pulled the gas tank today, emptied 40 yr old gas, and power washed it. Tank is amazing shape, just as clean inside as out. Also did some cleaning on interior. Areas under the sills and cab corners were dirty, but only surface rust.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
Have a few more parts on the way. Ordered and received new carpet, and have new seat cover ordered. Pulled floor mat out, not to bad underneath, only rust was on the far left, but it isn't rusted through.
Also cleaned up doors, removed door panels and cleaned and lubed window works and locks, doors don't look bad for all original. Pics:

Looks great Tom. I have you a couple gallons of Purple Power stuck back if you need them. Are you coming to the Tool Expo Tuesday night? Might be some things there that you need.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
..... a little update.
First I want to say that I know this is not a real exciting thread to watch. I am not a "blow apart, slam, how much money can I spend on bling" kind of guy. I am refurbishing a "truck", not a race truck or show truck, but a real truck. My goal is to make it a comfortable, safe everyday type driver. Off my soap box. No pics, but I have rebuilt my tail lights and back-up lights. Took everything apart, cleaned and reassembled. Installed new bezels on the tail lights, worked a dent out where the left back-up light was. I am starting on the door seals next, going with original type glue on seals, my truck does not say "Honda" on it anywhere, LoL.

Re: 1966 "find and fix"
I think you are doing it perfectly, I like modified trucks but I also like original trucks and you have an excellent example of a nice unrestored truck. I would love to find one in that condition.
