Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
Mine was more of a 60-66 guy. I remember several of those. None of them were ever new, of course. I think the first new truck he ever bought was a '78. The only one like ours I remember he only had for a short time while I was away in the army. I only saw it once. A 69 GMC, I think. I think that because it was that really dark GMC green. Now that I think about it, he bought a new 74 datsun once, too.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
The first truck my dad ever bought was a 1968 anniversary edition C10. I never knew it was special until I got involved with this website.
The second truck was a 1970 dark green with white on top and bottom. The third truck was a 1972 super cheyenne in dark green and white. He ordered the truck the way he wanted. I drove that truck during high school. In 1973 it was involved in an accident at the local gas station and the bed was burnt. I have a polaroid picture of it at the accident. He sold the truck on the spot. The new owner drove it for three years and parked it. I bought the truck back in 2003. I was given the original title with my dad's name on it. The new owner never titled it, he just drove it with plates he had on hand. It is still not restored ( too many projects) but I still have it.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
That didn't take long. I thought there was a chance I could seek that by. What was I thinking. I went a dug it out. First pic is of the accident and the second is the truck today.
The short story. The impala in the pic was hit on the road in the rear quarter panel. It spun around 90 degrees, caught traction and headed into the gas station. It hit the truck in the rear of the bed. The truck went sideways over the gas pump and the light pole. It pushed the light pole and pump on top of a vega. Then came the fire. If you look in the pic you can see the foam that was put on the fire on the ground beside the truck. The accident was in 1973. When I bought the truck back the retired town marshall saw it in my driveway. He found the pic in his old files and brought it to me in 2003.

It just occurred to me, even though my dad bought a couple of new ones, since I bought one too, I am one of the Dads.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad worked for GM back then. He never bought one but he sold a bunch of them and drove a bunch of them. the first picture was when he won salesman of the year for trucks in NC. Second one was in our drive way in Charlotte NC on Rocky Falls rd. Blue truck in background was his company truck.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
Yup, he bought it new in Massachusetts in 72. Only months later he moved to Idaho and drove the truck there. He and the truck lived in dry unsalted Idaho for 37 years and he took great care of it. Had a camper on the back and pulled a boat at the same time. Then when he passed away I got it and drove it to dry unsalted New Mexico, where I continue his legacy of taking care of it. A 1971 C20 Custom Camper Longhorn, dark olive. He liked that truck a lot, so do I.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
This is me, age 5 or so, in the back of what would then have been a pretty new 1969 C10 that was the parts truck from my dad's dealership. 292 Auto, not much else but an AM radio. My brother took it off to college in 76 after Dad replaced it with a van. A few years later I think it got sold. Probably rusted to hell (Northeast) and crushed decades ago.
Memories of riding in this truck (mostly sitting on a wheel well in the bed, since my older brothers got the seats first) are what made me choose 67-72 C-series as a hobby. |

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
I remember my Dad had a 72, light blue v8 and 3OTT. He worked near the University of South Carolina,(Gamecocks) and a student drove a 72 Clemson Orange truck. It was a Custom Deluxe 350 auto tranny, and air conditioning, power brakes and power steering. This student saw my Dads blue one and wanted to trade because people picked on him driving a Clemson orange truck in Gamecock country. They swapped even and my Dad got the better end of the deal with a fully loaded 72. My Dad washed it every Sunday afernoon until his death in 1988. My Mom gave me the truck and I drove it for years until a deer pulled out in front of me back in 1992. At that time didnt have the paper assets to fix back up. Its in storage at my Moms awaiting a frame off resto in the near future. Meanwhile I have another one that I'm restoring and drive on the weekends.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My grandfather had a light blue 1977 c10, 250 ci with 3ott. I loved that truck, I learned to drive in it, at 13 on the family farm in Connecticut. I wanted it but, that poor truck rusted to pieces. Later I had a couple friends with 67 - 72s and that sealed the deal for me.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
Thanks Buddy... Unfortunately the Wichita, Ks police department is Absolutely worthless... 3 weeks after the truck was stolen I called to find out if they had anything on it and was informed it had not even been assigned to a detective... so Beyond the Beat officers, the Department couldn't find their ass with their hands...

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
Dad bought the 1970 when I was like 12 and I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Eventually when I was 17 he made a dream come true and "sold" it to me.
Now my son loves it just as much as me. If I can keep her together it will be a frame off resto some day. Been a member of the family for like 15+ years now. I love the vintage pics guys, Here are a couple of mine. The old girl has been with me through a lot. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Found some pictures of the old K5. The first one is from '78 with the original paint, 307 motor, west coast mirrors, and homemade roll bar. The second one was taken in '83 after a new paint job, 1 1/2" lift, 283 with power pack heads, dual exhaust, new roll bar, homemade front bumper, and custom half rag top.

Yes he did. He got it from HIS father, and I found and reclaimed this truck from the new owner after it was sold by my dad nearly 20 years ago. All mine now!!

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad bought his very first new truck in 1969. It was a C20 with a 350 and a T400 transmission, dana 60 diff and leaf springs. The first day he had it he stopped by a local farm and loaded it up to the top of bed rails with fresh cow manure.
This truck never saw the garage or a wash and wax. I got when he passed away in 1993 at 83. I rebuilt the engine and trans, put new brakes and tires on it the next couple of years. in 2000 someone low life stole it. Never got it back. This is the only picture I can find of it.

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My dad had an olive green/ white top 72 c10 custom deluxe lwb he bought new in 72. I was a little over a year old at the time. It was a 307/ auto truck, ps, pb, no ac. He traded it on a 73 or 74 black with red interior cheyenne super c10 with a 454. Sharp truck but passed everything bu a gas station! He ended up letting my older brothers swap the 454 for the 350 in my brothers 73 camaro. The camaro ran like a scalded ape from about 40mph, but still had a 3.08 open rear. The N50 15 would lay the widest one wheel peal you have ever seen!

Re: Did your dad own a 67 to 72 chevy or gmc ?
My Pops had a 69 LWB C10, three on the tree 307 V8, no power steering or power brakes. It was light green and painted a couple of times. I learned to drive it when I was 14 and it was a beast. After learning to drive it, every car or truck I drove was a piece of cake.
My Pops put a secondary tank on it and bigger tires. The tires of course changed the speedometer and he got cited by CHP for speeding. After that he had a piece of paper that had the corrected speeds on it until the day he sold it in 1984. His truck is why I bought my daughter a 71 C10 4speed to learn to drive on, and now I'm selling that truck and have a 72 for her daily driver when she turns 16. Once she's done with it, it will be mine again to hopefully make it a pro street rig.
