sounds like you have some lucky kids. my only brother got a Camaro for his first car and got in so much trouble with it when it was my turn I got stuck with a dodge challenger unfortunately it was a 78 built by Mitsubishi if you got a good enough run down hill with a tail wind and a real car pushing you good shift it into fifth without losing any speed :-) hopefully my kid's don't ever have to suffer the same fate. although I did learn recently from dad he had no idea the challenger we went to look at was that lame either but he still bought it anyhow but he is forgiven since he was the one that eventually bought me my stepside I'm still driving 21 years later

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

got the old cast iron intake off it, dang I forgot how heavy those are... got most the way threw cleaning up the heads hopefully have it cleaned up in the morning so when she gets home from work she can help me throw on that freebie intake and carb. the oil line adapter I found wasn't the right one so I'm still looking.

Do any of you know what this wire is for ?
It's red heavy gauge wire I don't remember unhooking it doesn't look like it was hooked to anything for for long while now thanks

That's not a bad looking car but a lack of power would suck. I ended up with my sister's 1986 Plymouth Tourismo hatchback and I hated that thing! It was low on power, the instrumentation was lame, the transmission was wonky, and overall, it sucked.

Oh ya, the shape of the hatchback would allow gallons of water to collect! It never leaked but I could see it being a huge problem in the future.

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

if im not mistaken that wire is the temperature gauge wire, which connects to the side of the engine (usually the drivers side) to the temperature thermostat

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

forgot to mention it is alive once again definitely running better now that the 40 year old carb is off it. probably would have been simpler to just clean it but can't pass up freebie intake and carb!

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

test drive went pretty good been awhile since I drove anything without power steering. truck runs really well now and there is absolutely no noise coming from that old motor but once you get into the mid rpm's she start's to smoke like crazy. need to keep it moving some more and hopefully it will clean up.

yes I know world's smallest burnout but it was enough to scare the crap out of my girls

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

And now for the ugly... probably one of the rustiest cabs I've ran across around here I'm sure it's because the drilled a big hole in the roof for a cb antenna and didn't plug up any of the holes from the multiple different mirrors this poor truck has had. passenger side is the same except it also has some holes in the bottom of the door core and skin.

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

before we picked it up somebody hit the back of it with some farm equipment I didn't share earlier because I wanted to do the before/after thing but so far life's been getting in the way and we didn't get it finished yet. spent 1/2 day pulling on it but it's not coming out we are going to patch it instead.

Re: My Daughter's 72 just made it home

we got it to the point we could install tail lights again and probably going to stay that way until after winter she won't have her license til the spring anyhow. the turn signals work but I the brake lights and tail lights don't work. soon as I get a chance I need to figure out what's going on with them any ideas? haven't looked into it yet at all.

The purists are going to give you a hard time about that but in your defense it looks like you did a good job reshaping the hole, it isn't a hack job like we see most of the time.

Great progress. Hurry - the snow is coming

Check all your grounds, bulbs, run the wires for breaks, and check the send unit thing at the brake pedal.
