Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I got about a hour of free time so I decided to start the can swap. I got the timing cover off and what do you know a 1 bolt cam....and I have a 3 bolt cam so I had to order a new sprocket and bolts. Not bad as they cost me 20.20 for a pocket delivered and 9.38 for arp bolts. But I would have ordered them a while back of I had known. I thought it was 3 bolt until 2010 but it's 2008 and up gen IV.
I got a couple questions. Any problems with the timing chain adjuster from 1 bolt sprocket to 3 bolt? Is there a way to upgrade the oil pump since I got the cover off?? I mean with out having to replace the whole oil pump and dropping the pan as the motor is sitting on the pan on a pallet. Or is the new oil pump the best way? Or just leave it?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
My 2004 LS 5.3 engine was a 3 bolt cam. when I rebuilt the motor I replaced the cam and installed double roller chain and gears. I'm just asking a question is your motor flex fuel engine with variable timing. If it is the lifters are different than what you would typically see.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
It's a 4.8 from a 2008 1500. No VVT no DOD. I picked my son up from track practice and we went to the shop and got the cam swapped out with the new one. Here is a picture of him taking it out.

This is the cam card for the cam we swapped in. Should help out with the 4.8 in a 4x4.

The blue springs looks thicker, stiffer for the higher lift cam you are installing.

DW do you know if there is anything I should do to the oil pump since I am in there? Dissemble and clean maybe? I don't want to remove the pan as it would be pretty difficult for me to do unless it is best to do so. I guess I can block up the motor some way so that I can get to the bolts. Right now it is sitting on the pan.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Look what I got. Complete 1991 suburban frame. It's the suburban I got the transfer case out of. Steering and both axles. Not sure what I will use but of I do I have it. 200$ I didn't think that was bad. I am annum on trying to use the front cross member for the la swap plus away bar etc.
Anyone want a 10bolt front or rear????? Cheap Lol.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
might be able to use the gas tank too!
If it s a 40 it might be a little big but the 31s should fit good Anxiously awaiting the crossmember swap |

The main reason I got it was for the steering box and crossmember. I bought a steering box and had to pay the core charge as I didn't have a core but I do now so that $50 back already.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
probably make your money back selling the axles, if it has low gears and a locker of some sort then it should sell quickly.
Did it have a sway bar? I'd swap that over. I've seen a few guys put in an LS with just engine mounts, sure you need the entire crossmember?

Question regarding the comment you made about the crossmember. So you know of someone that swapped in a LS motor with no front crossmember just mounts? This is the passenger side motor mount

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
It's all coming back to me now. Remember the motor won't fit in the stock crossmember so unless those mounts raid the engine significantly it won't work. Square peg round hole theory. The LS is a fatty

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Ok I am a little confused. Are you talking about the 91 crossmember or the plates and mounts I posted a picture of from eBay?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I went back to the comment the guy made about just using later mounts in the 68
There is no avoiding the crossmember swap be it the square body or dirty dingo Those mounts will most likely work. I'd dig some more before ordering maybe something more common to square body guys |
