I removed mine, haven't noticed any problems ... it wasn't connected on either side, anyway . But seriously, that piece lent rigidity to the floor left to right, because there was no link between the cab mounts. With that reinforcement tube welded in there, you'll have no problems removing it.

AD thanks, JJorgensen thanks will remove the rear seat support shortly.

Drilled all the holes in the new floor panels and sprayed weld thru primer.



Welding is ready, next step is rear cab corner and inner cab corner.

That floor is coming out quite well! Does your truck still have the angle braces from the door pillar to the inner cab corner? Mine were both damaged and had to be tossed.

You mean those braces?, Yes they are in good shape.
Cut the right side out, still have to remove the inner corner, thought it would come out easily, but need more work.

Today spend some time on the inner rear cab corner, cleaned and sprayed weld thru primer..

Hey Chevy 49, progress looks good, about the top vent, I filled the vent on my '54 back in the day, it looked good and I thought all would be fine because I was going to install AC anyway. Anytime I had the windows down at highway speeds and no vent to open there was a lot of air buffeting in the cab. On my current AD I rebuilt the top and side vent and use them both. It makes a world of difference in the cap pressures having the ability to open the vents and have the air flow through the cab. If you have a buddy with working vents try a test drive with vent open and closed and you'll see what I mean.

@ Rob,

Thanks for your tip about the cab ventilation, I drove the truck several years ago and did not drive with the vents open, hmmm... maybe electric windows will help.

Thanks, that's the way I did get also all the information I need(ed).

This week bought a new welder, tried a lot of (test) welds to get the settings right, first welds to the cab:



Left cab corner is also in, need to trim the door gap later.



Fuel filler patch is in.

You have done alot of metal repair already,looking good..

I know the feeling, I had all the same rotted spots as you did on my truck.

I ended up making most of my pieces rather than buying new patch panels (lack of cash ) new patches make the time cut in half.

Nice progress so far will be watching..

I had a similar problem with my replacement panels. Nothing like a pie cut to make things fit.

Thanks, I have read your build also, can't wait to get the cab on the frame, putt the doors in and see how many cuts I have to make.....
Have to finish the firewall and top cowl vent first....

I closed the cowl vents on mine also. I think it makes a cleaner look.
