Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
I never got down on my knees to clean any tire. I always scrub my blackwalls and it's no less work than scrubbing RWL or whitewalls. I just bend over.
I didn't know life had some sort of schedule where we do things at this age but by the time we get that age we're supposed to stop and do something else. I guess that's why I've been driving 67-72 trucks since I was 18 and now I'm 60 with no plans to stop.

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Life's schedule should be more like how George from Seinfeld explains it...
The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A death. What`s that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you`re too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you`re young enough to enjoy retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, and you get ready for High School. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last 9 months floating...then you finish off as an orgasm! Amen." .

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
I voted for black wheels, No lettering, and the results are close for or against.
It all comes down to personal preference. Obviously, we are split here on the boards. Bill

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Well, we with with RWL showing and my son really likes it. For those who asked, the wheels are MB Motoring. I'm not sure which model. I think we may be looking to do a mild drop on it. Maybe 2/4. Not sure what all we can really do with this large of tire and have good ride and no clearance issues. Sure rides better than it did on the little rubber bands, though. Last photo makes it look like it sits taller than it doe because other side was still lower from little wheels.
Big difference... Yes, I made him install his own present. :-P |

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Looks way better! Just drop it a little. I hate rubber bands, especially 24" wagon wheels.

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
I think you need to just put what you like on your truck and then post pictures. It doesn't matter what anyone else likes. It's your truck do what makes you happy!

Raised white letter tires are for Muscle Cars.

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Black walls are for old guys with beer guts who tuck in their 1994 Goodguys T-shirt into starched jeans shorts, have a comb in their back pocket, but have severely thinning hair and complete the look with a fanny pack, knee high white socks and light tan shoes from KMart with velcro straps...........just one man's opinion

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Not sure how this thread surfaced again all of the sudden but I love the raised white letters. I think it's a nice contrast on the black. But hey I've been putting them that way since I was a teenager, I didn't know it wasn't allowed when/if you grew up. Funny part is the thread was posted last November if the son has a license now those tires might be worn off by now. I think the truck looks great! Huge upgrade from the old tires and rims! How's it going now? An update on the progress it's made would be cool.

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Raised whites aren't usually my first choice, but they were when I was a kid. But there are sure a lot of trucks on this board that I think look really great with the raised whites.
The images of the 60's cars posted earlier look really good with the raised whites ... period looking for sure.

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
I also go back and forth on this issue. In my teen years, I had a Camaro Z/28 with Radial T/As and then Eagle S/Ts and I always mounted them RWL showing.
I'm getting ready to replace the Michellin LTX M/S's on my C/10 (in the picture) which are RWL showing, and thinking about going for a blackwall look this time. |

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
Thanks, RD. This was my Dad's farm truck from the Imperial Valley region of Southern Cal. I brought it up to San Diego in original condition in the early 2000s as a hauler, where it immediately started to rust from the salt air. Started resto around 2004 and still working on it!
I learned to drive in it, spin the tires, catch air, do doughnuts...all the things you do in a Chevy truck out on the farm when you're not working. |

Re: Lettering - yeh or neh
FYI - the tires specs on the SoCal C/10 are:
Michelin LTX M/S 30X9.5 LT Mounted on original 15X5.5 steel wheels I always wonder about the tire sizes when I look at truck picks on this message board, so I thought I'd add that info. |
