Hmmmm, who could you have been talking to on the phone?
I got my heater core from the dreaded Auto Zone a couple years ago. It isn't 100% correct, but when it comes to my GMC, good enough is too good for her. Since I do drive mine in the cold, I did seal mine up a bit. Since money is always an issue in my house, I used some black RTV as a gasket...I think I used a tube of The Right Stuff on it, but it may have been dime store crap though. I just squeezed it on where the seal would have been and bolted it on. I then squirted some around the gap whwere the heater core 'pipes' stick out through the box. There was a measurable increase in the temp. Not that I measured it or anything. (How anal do you think i am?) Imagine going through all the steps that Jewels went through, only to discover that the Dope Smoking Old Man didn't install that b!tch bolt. Yeah...I was peeved. So Jewels, did the hood get lined up pretty good? You didn't chip the paint installing it back on did you? |

yes - the hood lined up perfectly --- right with the chalk marks (except, i washed part of the chalk off when i was cleanin (on accident)) - but it lined up really nice --- i had help line-ing it up, though. no chips... i was a little paranoid about removin that hood, as it might get chipped, but no such thing happened! whew! jewels.

well now you know that the heaterbox isn't a seat, changing a heater has never been a fun thing to do. Hey at least the heater fan is accessable. On my Monte I have to take the fender off to get at the bloody thing, I find that fans that have come out of A/C GM's blow more aire then regular fans, just a tip.

HEY, love is a 4 letter word. We can't be poluting our bord with that kind of trash talk.
Actually, I thought I dialed a 1-900 number, and I got her. :O Naa, she just knows that on just about every job on these trucks I have a tidbit of advice and tricks that i like to do, and she knows that most of them make the job easdier or the truck work better. Plus she was asking about the seat flipping forward. |

Hey, since we're on heaters/heater cores, have any of you had to replace the hoses under the dash that supply the warm air into the vehicle? Kind of like the dryer hoses that you'd find in the laundry room but smaller. Mine were ancient, and when I was rootin around in there, I acidentally jabbed a few holes through the passenger side hose, connecting to the vent on the dash.
What can I use for a replacement?

Joe; I think you mean the defroster hoses? You can buy them through Chevy Duty, GMC Pauls, or other vendors, but I just went to NAPA and bought a couple feet of I think 2 1/2" defroster hose. I didn't have to use clamps or anything, they are real snug. Not to be a smarta$$ or anything, but I don't know if there are NAPAs in Canada, but any other parts store should have them.

hmmm - thats a tough one, cause i worked on it gradually all afternoon.... but... 20 mins - remove hood 30-40 mins - drop inner fender 20 mins - remove heater box 10 mins - replace core 20 mins - replace heater box 1 hour? - replace inner fender (argh!!!) 5 mins - replace hoses 15 mins - replace/realign hood so maybe three hours of work? but those are pretty realistic OVER estimates of time -- i like to hang out, take my time, be thourough, etc. i'm sure you could EASILY do it faster. i do it like a woman --- check twice, and then check again three more times! good luck! jewels.

if you get the original type defroster hose then be prepared for them to fit very very snug. the plastic hose goes on easier. those hoses are a pain to run sometimes. mine were a pain but i have a/c too so that factors into the equation
