It's been in the upper-50s/lower-60's for about the past 5 days. Average temp right now is supposed to be around 30 deg. All of our snow has melted (which is at least a month early). It sounds like "winter" will make it's return with about 8-12" on that way this Friday.

I wanted to take a moment to throw a shout out to forum member "Clemsonteg". He sent me a very good heater-box (for nothing but the cost of shipping!) to replace the rusty one that was in my truck. We've got some good people here I tell ya! Here it is with a new heater core and a gasket kit from Classic Parts.



Unrelated, but I picked up the flywheel from the machine shop today. All pretty and smooth.

No, wasn't bad. I'm replacing the clutch, so figured it would be smart to have them give it a quick "buff" while it was apart anyway.

Finally taking some time to update this thread...

Earlier this spring I was able to get the transmission cleaned up and put in a new seal kit.



Then got the engine repainted:







Got the flywheel and clutch installed:



...and the new engine is in!



Next up is the smaller pieces like the water pump, fuel pump, PS pump, starter, and exhaust. Stay tuned!

On the cap floor; did you sand it and spray paint it before you put the POR-15 on?

No, the premise behind POR-15 is that you "paint over rust". I wire brushed it to get any loose bits off, but you're not supposed to sand or sandblast before POR-15, or sometimes it's been known to have adhesive issues and will flake off.

Wire brush, paint on the POR-15 with rubber gloves and a disposable brush, then spray paint over that when it gets tacky. Hope this helps.

Any chance you still have the old exhaust manifolds laying on a shelf ? I just bought a C10 and both are cracked/broken on mine. I live just across the river from Hudson.



I'm going to have to look into finding that rust stain remover to clean mine up. Never seen or heard of it before, but it, obviously, works quite well.

Sorry, I don't have those manifolds anymore. Most of the studs snapped off inside them, and after multiple attempts to weld a nut on to get them out, I gave up and gave them to a family member. I ordered these replacements off RockAuto. Not too bad of a price.

Wow, how has it been almost a year since updating this thread?? Yes, lots happening since then so I'll try to get things back up to speed. Thanks for asking, it's nice to know that somebody is listening!

After the engine went in there were some items that were repaired. The passenger fender needed a new front lower cup as the original was basically missing.



A new (used) windshield was installed.



The radiator and (Ford Windstar) electric fans were installed. Here is a pic of it mid-install.



The fan relays came from a Ford Crown Vic:



Because of the added electrical draw, the truck was treated to a 12si alternator.

After the front clip went on, I managed to find a much better grill for a great price on CL.



A chrome front bumper was bought from Rock Auto.



If you are looking for a chrome front bumper, I HIGHLY recommend these. Best I could tell, these are rechromed originals, not cheap repops.

Once we got the engine running and broken in, an entire weekend was wasted trying to figure out why the horn wouldn't stop going off after the steering column was rebuilt.

Things were getting close, so it was time to get the freshly painted 8" wide 6-lugs off the shelf and get some decent tires under her.

Lately we've been using it for small trips around town to shake things down and make sure everything is working correct. Here she is hauling a small boat with a 1968 4hp Mercury outboard engine my dad gave me in a 5-gallon bucket saying if I could have it if I put it together.



And now this brings us to last weekend. I had called the original owner (Roy) a couple weeks ago after 2.5 years since purchasing the truck from him. We talked about some of the things that were done to the truck and planned a meet up. Last weekend Roy got to see his old friend again. (the truck, not me. LOL)

It was a GREAT meet up! He and his wife took a few pics of the truck, and they told many stories! Here are some highlights:

1) The front grill had a large bend to it when I first got the truck. The center of the grill was pushed in about 4". The entire thing was gently U-shaped. Turns out Roy used the front of the truck to "nudge" a bull that wasn't headed the direction he wanted.

2) Apparently the large dent on the driver's side of the box was caused by Roy's brother who backed a hay cutter into it about 30 years ago.

3) The passenger door has had a previous repair to it that looks quite old. It turns out that Roy and a friend of his were out on a duck hunting trip, and although this friend was a very experienced hunter, somehow his gun managed to discharge as he was getting out of the truck, blowing a 5" wide hole right through the door!

Hearing stories like this was nothing short of amazing. I'm so glad we were able to reconnect. I told Roy the truck is always less than 6 miles from where he lives and he's always welcome to stop over for a visit!

Here's Roy with "his" truck. It was very satisfying to see the look on his face when he saw the truck and began to tell stories about it.
