Re: Thompson power blast plate- Carb innovation?
I'm bringing this back up with another skeptic turned believer. My mild build 350 showed the same throttle response improvements and a nice smooth linear pull all the way through the rpm range with the Power blast plate installed on the Edlebrock 1405....my opinion is that it's well worth the 40 bucks and an hr worth of work.

Re: Thompson power blast plate- Carb innovation?
I am curious, do either of you use non-ethanol gas?

Re: Thompson power blast plate- Carb innovation?
No, but I try to run 93 octane.

Well... Edelbrock carbs need all the help they can get.

Re: Thompson power blast plate- Carb innovation?
No argument here. The blast plate atomizes the fuel better than the straight stream from the accelerator pump, and directs the fuel spray downward - would likely help Holleys too. Also regarding my Edelbrock 1405, I installed an old school Mr. Gasket 9710 regulator to keep the fuel pressure around 5psi. That really seemed to eliminate the extreme gas smell after a drive as I've read that the CarterAFB/Edelbrock carbs can't handle more than 5psi of fuel. I also changed the metering rods to the #1459 rods that are on the 1406 to lean out the cruising stage two steps, but keep it about the same on the power stage.
1405: 1428 (.100") main jets, 1451 (0.70" x .047") metering rods 1406: 1427 (.098") main jets, 1459 (0.75" x .047") metering rods

Re: Thompson power blast plate- Carb innovation?
I bought one for my Holley 4X4 Avenger. I haven't had time until recently to put it on. I will do it next week just to get the box off the shelf. I will report back what I think to be my findings. I don't have a dyno so what I say is worth squat. If it improves drivability then hooray, I will get back on the road and drive more. If not, it cost less than my ex but is harmless and I will leave it in there.

Re: Thompson power blast plate- Carb innovation?
I have a 260 hp Mercruiser 350 in my Malibu ski boat that was factory equipped with a Carter carb and the cast iron spreadbore version of the Z/28 intake. It has an Edelbrock Marine 750 cfm carb on it now. If this makes any improvement at low speed full throttle application for pulling a skier it will be worth all of the $40 and the hour to install. Going to buy one and try it out.
