Re: Paint or Patina?
I would keep it original, but ultimately, it is whatever you prefer!

Re: Paint or Patina?
ok I think today we got
3 for leave it alone(I did not add Chevylands extra votes LOL but I hope he keeps the comments coming) 1 for paint I think we are at 7 do what you want 19 leave it alone 9 paint it So the leave it alone crowd is leading by a good margin but the question then is do we add the NOS trim. I have most everything (some pieces still working on) to change out all parts on the exterior including lights. 4 DAYS TO GO |

Re: Paint or Patina?
I would get it detailed first before you make up you mind. I mean professorially detailed. You'd be surprised what those guys can pull off if you get a good one.
There's no rush. Clean it up and if you don't like it, paint it. You might be surprised just how good the old girl looks with makeup on.

Re: Paint or Patina?
I could be wrong, but in the latest photos I noticed the door latch was painted. I don' remember my 70 GMC having those latches being painted. Maybe this truck was repainted years ago? Just saying...

Re: Paint or Patina?
the truck has original paint, nothing about it shows repaint. As far as I know the latch on the door are all painted from the factory, the door latch on the cab is not. I will send a couple more pictures of the latches.

Re: Paint or Patina?
The hard part now a days is finding a body shop that will even take on a complete paint job let alone rust repair , They just aren't trained for this type of work . Bumper cover repairs and they come already painted does not make a body man . I really don't know how some guys can afford to have a restoration shop build their truck and still have a way out of it without taking a major hit ?

Re: Paint or Patina?
Heck no don't paint that truck. Or, don't even consider it until you at least give it a good buff/polish. The paint looks pretty oxidized and I bet that thing would come back to life very nicely. The NOS trim would go perfectly with the refreshed paint. Ultimately, though, my vote would have to be it's your truck so do what you want dependent on what your vision is for the truck.

Re: Paint or Patina?
Oh, I'm sure I could find a good home for those nos parts for you
I'll clear out my pm box for you! For when your decision is made 😇 All kidding aside Do what you want with your Rust bucket Also. I'm pretty sure your doors have been painted On the inside. At some point. All those strikers Should be bare metal. Who knows why? 45 is a lot of years! It doesn't matter though It is a very original preserved truck👍 |
