Re: I like STOCK trucks

I just love that truck Greg. One of my favorites. I’m curious if you have any info form po’s that confirm what caps/wheel covers camr on it originally? I think the PO1s you’ve put on it look perfect. Being a custom deluxe that is not a promo package highlander (with PA1s) and also not having PO3s on the SPID means it must've come with stock white caps, I think. Any old pics etc that would lead you to believe the same? Interesting combo and wondering if perhaps some initial showroom horse trading went on before it left the dealer.

Re: I like STOCK trucks

Wow....some nice trucks.
Joe....you are a force of nature....and a one man classic truck show, lol.
Dave....that continues to be one premium restoration......but...but....but...I couldn't live without a tilt wheel anymore, ...and I would have to add that to that already lengthy spid, lol.

All good

I actually tracked down the original owners son last Spring. I agree with you that the truck has a kinda weird combo of options. I asked if his Dad had ordered the truck and he said no he just bought it off the lot. He also said his Dad hated the plaid seat so installed a good quality seat cover right away, which attests to the real good condition of the plaid seat today. The In-Service date is July 21st of 1972 and the engine numbers on the block are from February 1972. With those dates in mind I'm thinking the truck was a special order for someone who dint follow through when the truck arrived or the dealer ordered it for stock and it sat for while before being purchased. I was sent these posted pics of the truck by the son. The photo from the print was taken right after the truck was purchased and the others are from 2011 when the son sold it to a guy in Minnesota. As you can in those 2011 pics it has the chrome caps but with the ochre bowties so think they were installed later and the original ones were removed. I dont get your point about the horsetrading..

Thanks for sharing those pics Greg, I remember when you first got it and those caps that were on it - they are 76+ caps I believe. By horse trading at the dealership, I meant that since the truck had some cool options on it but also came with white caps just like a Custom when new - perhaps the dealer and initial buyer did some horse trading and put PO1s or PO3s or something else on there. No way to know unless the seller had some real old pics. Nothing concrete to suspect that other than the fact that the white caps are long gone (as are whatever else may or may not have been on it in 72).

My '72. Seat was recovered in 2016 with period material and color. It's more green that what shows in the picture.

It’s a knob on the dash that looks just like a choke cable. Set the idle up for the PTO

not sure about the engine side of it, but the control is the lower left knob on the bezel of this 70 K1500 burb

I suspect it looks much like a choke cable with a stop on a slotted gimbal on the throttle lever..

local ad, I looked at it and passed.. think it's sold, ad's gone anyways..

seems like they would be useful for pto equipped manual trans trucks but I guess you could use it for cruise..

Makes sense for wreckers, dump trucks, etc.

exactly.. kinda what I was thinking.. and what I forgot to mention above;

when the seller was showing it to me and guessing as to its purpose, he made a swag at some sort of cruise..

and in my head I was thinking 'how flippin dangerous is that!'

All 71-72's have the manual throttle on the passenger side. That dark gold suburban is a 70, not a 72. Not sure I have ever seen it on the drivers side before?
