Finished the motor mounts, what a pain they were. Glad it’s over. Also welded the oil pan back up and checked for leaks. One leak that needed fixed but other than that it held some slightly dirty mineral spirits for 24 hours without a drop. Now I have to install a drain plug.

Aired out and full of air, all the way up I got about 11” of clearance from the bottom of the chassis. So I should be good to pick my perfect ride height. I’m really hoping the weight of the truck slams it a bit more than it is aired out. There’s another inch there which is perfect. I don’t want it directly on the ground in case of a air failure while driving (which I’ve had with my Lincoln) it’s nice to be able to steer it and load it on a flat bed if need be.

For those keeping score, when I bought the Cummins it came with a 727 torqflight trans (3 speed non lock up converter) which wasn’t going to cut it for me, so I searched and searched for a 2 wheel drive 47rh from a 95 Cummins. Fairly rare item up here in Canada since everything is always 4 wheel drive. I’ll be doing a full rebuild and some slight mods to this in case I throw some power at it down the road.

Wire wheeled the block after it came back from the machine shop, full rotating assembly is ready to roll. I think I’ll start the rebuild next weekend.

So, now that I’m at this point I’ll ask for some advice. The truck will be the OG patina (silver) it already is, interior colour probably gun metal grey or black, engine bay will also be gun metal grey or black soooo what colour should these guys be. The block will be black and these pieces here will be my only source of colour if any.
Your looking at the 6 rocker covers, turbo and intake tube What you guys think??? |

You dont want to overfill the pan and have the crank spinning in the oil.
Doesn't sound like, at 12L capacity, that you will be missing too much oil from the factory design.

Started the motor today, cleaning and cleaning and cleaning and...... you get the rest. This is a stock rebuild so I took out the trusty plasti-gauge to check clearances. Nothing to crazy here, stock new bearings/seals rebuild, new turbo cartridge, reman injection pump. Only thing that’s going over board is the injectors. They’re big, lots of black smoke will happen.

Fresh cartridge for the turbo, the one that came with it was damaged so a new one was needed. The idiot (previous owner) put a ratchet strap hook in the comp side and chipped 3 fins.

KDP (killer dowl pin) mod was done. For anyone who knows anything about these 12 valves is they will run forever, providing the dowl pin doesn’t fall out and destroy everything. I made this myself (25 minutes of work) or you can buy the kit for $80.

Motor is getting there, I’m gonna get it running and make sure there isn’t any leaks or anything before I paint it. New air filter fits like a glove. I’ll hit up the hardware store tomorrow and grab some metric bolts and NPT plugs to finish some things up. I’m not a big fan of the felpro blue rubbers so I’ll have to track down some black ones to change them out.

Man!! Cleaning the old paint and crap off these injector lines was a pain. Took me about 2 hours to clean this set. Still got more to go plus another set of 3.
Building an old truck is 70% cleaning/stripping all the paint and old crap off of the stuff your re using. |

Back at it guys, took some time off for a winter vacation. My wife and I took a Caribbean cruise for our honey moon. It was a blast. The motor is completely back together ready for the first fire. Just need some fluids. I had to notch the front rail to clear the AC compressor. CanÂ’t wait to hear this thing run.

Motor runs good, fired right up after priming the lines. It’s kinda on the back burner for now. I picked up a new blower kit for my Lincoln so I’ll be working on getting it ready for the summer for now.
Last summer I had a crazy brain fart and sold my blower set-up to only find out that I needed it back lol. I ditched the 2” blower spacer and added a shorty crank trigger distributor. Can’t wait to get it back running. |

I've learned a lot and i keep learning from this build. can't wait to keep going on it. |
