Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I took my 90 lb. German Shepherd to the dog groomer. They took forever and when I finally picked him up he got all excited and scratched the chit out of my arm.

Then later I had a seizure (I get them from time to time) and smashed into some furniture with sharp corners and cut myself up even more.

Now my left arm looks like I've been in a knife fight and I broke some stuff that I really liked going down. But no broken bones. I've never broken a bone in my life and I've had some nasty spills. The last one I hit the hardwood floor so hard my head bounced up and I hit it again like dribbling a basketball. Bam Bam. Now I know why they call it hardwood. It's very unforgiving. That one hurt. A LOT.

But my dog looks great...Me....Not so much.

Thanks Tim, hope you get that bolt out. Harpers ferry was a pain with all the covid closures. Tough to find a place to park. But beautiful as ever. Yesterday I took the kids to the safari park at natural bridge. It’s was a good time. My wife got violated by an elk munching the grain from the bucket in her lap better times ahead no doubt. If I ever move back it will be deep in the Shenandoah Valley. That’s by far some of my favorite country I’ve ever seen in my life. Here’s the Blue Ridge on the way back to my Grandmas place in Berryville. This is a few minutes north of toms brook on 81.

Hope you get better Paul!!

I just got back from cleaning out my office. My furlough has ended. I am not surprised however. They've trimmed a bunch. After 29 years I was ready anyway.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Finished up making another cooling device for the shop. Used my house's old AC/Heat blower motor assembly. It had been replaced less than a year before the whole AC /heat was redone.

Put together a little cart from scrap metal and some old computer desk chair casters. Now I have a mini moveable fan with 4 speeds. Since it works and it didn't catch on fire, looks like time well spent.

Get out the fishing pole.

My company did the same thing. Cut. Cut Cut. Cut. I saw so many people go out the door that I've lost track. Everyone was scrambling around like rats on a sinking ship.

I left voluntarily after 36 years. Best thing I ever did. I just called my boss one day and told him that I retired and then I walked out.

He called me a day later to go over some things. He said that he had told the manager and his response was "Man I wish I could do that"

My boss was cool. My manager was cool. The company...Not so cool. When I started. It was different. Everyone was treated like family. We had company barbecues and things like that. And we were encouraged to move up.

I remember years ago. I got a new supervisor. She was known for being a real ballbuster. But I always got along with her. Not too hard for me because she was really good looking.

One day she called me in her office and I was like "Oh Sh*t. What did I do now".

She asked me why I hadn't applied for the open supervisor job.
I thought she was nuts. In my head I was a screw up. But she didn't think that. She had faith in me. And I told her I would apply.
But I'll never forget when I walked out. She stopped me and said. Oh one more thing Paul. Cut your hair. You'll never get through the process with that mop on your head.

I cut my hair. I studied. And in the end I beat out 33 other applicants and got the job. No one was more surprised than me. I kept that job until I retired and I owe it all to her for pushing me.

That's how it used to be. Now it's like "Get out. We don't need you" I feel sorry for the young people today.

I'm thankful that my kids are all doing well. Despite having me for a father.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I bought my lifetime fishing license several weeks ago.
I haven't been yet but I'm licensed up anyway.
This used to be a great family owned chain until 3 years ago when the owner sold out and retired. The company is now part of a much larger group of like companies and the owners have a way different approach to making money. I haven't been happy with the change at all. Now I won't have to put up with it anymore.

Congrats Boog. The company I work for is employee owned so I have a stake in all the outcomes. Talked to my boss on the phone today for the first time in weeks. I like it that way.

Picked up a new 5” bench vise today. Finally broke my little craftsman 4-1/2” vice that I had for about 20 years. I’d abused that thing and it finally gave it up. Got a heavier duty one that will probably outlast me.

Floated the Buffalo River with the kids and grandkids. I have never seen so many people in the river. I'll have to say it wasn't fun. We had traffic jambs.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

One of my sons and I laid more pavers and bricks in the back yard. It's a somewhat humbling experience to be the go-fer, as opposed to telling the son to go-fer things. At least I was picking up sacks of mortar and putting them where he needed them- in the wheelbarrow to mix. My back is jacked, and I can't mix the mortar in the wheelbarrow and then sling it into where it needs to be. I guess I have to be alive to complain, right? Right?

On a sad side note, one of the neighbors sold a wrecked late-model Suburban with a 5.7L engine for $1500 that had everything that I would have needed to convert my truck to LS power. It ran great. I am officially bummed. Yes, I now that there would have been additional work, but it would have cost less than rebuilding my 402. ************ Better luck next time, I guess.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I went up to see my mom on Thursday. Spent the afternoon/evening with her. Saw my buddy with the river outfitter business and planned to do a raft trip on Saturday. My brother was to come for the afternoon Friday with my two nephews. He's not a mechanical type guy at all. As mom was preparing the lunch, he calls and his truck was broke down along the road. At least he got off the interstate onto old US40 when he heard a rumbling and felt vibration. U-joint went real bad at the axle yoke. I stop and pick up a couple u-joints since he couldn't really say if clips were inner or outer. I get there and it's an aluminum shaft with the yoke all boogered up, wasted. I dropped the shaft, trimmed the top of a Styrofoam coffee cup to fit snug on the nose of the transfer case, slid a second one (he had these) over to make it stronger(?), and taped it on with Tyvek tape. Then I took a heavy plastic shopping bag corner and taped that over all that. That got him home on front wheel drive, no visit with mom.

My sister called while I was out helping my brother. She misunderstood and thought I was going to be at her place to install a wooden countertop I made last year for her. I have no other work, so I told her she was next. I guess she missed the part where I said I was going up to mom's. To keep the peace with her further lack of understanding I decided to skip the river trip, take mom around to some places, and rive home last night. I think that was my vacation . My sister and I, and brother-in-law, will be taking some R&R time while I'm down there. He has 3 kayaks and we'll paddle the switchbacks of the S. Fork of the Shenandoah in Page Co. VA and do some hiking if it isn't real hot.

This was going to be my second half of a vacation. I hope it doesn't go like the first half . I have a couple truck friends in that general area I hope to go visit as well. One has a treasure trove of parts that he is known for not ever selling any of. I'll at least be privileged enough to at least see them . Both are great guys I really look forward to seeing.

I wake up real early, so Friday I headed out for a coffee at daybreak and ran up to the top of the hill to watch the sunrise and enjoy the view while I drank it
