Right I stopped by oreillys last night as its literally down my street and rented one for a couple days. Pulled mine off in about a minutes time. Much quicker than a hammer
I'm driving the 71 to work today then afterwards ill be pullin the box off her as well to get them both turned in for freshly rebuilt ones. 125$ a piece with 30$ rag joint so my front end should be pretty stout by Saturday night. I'm also going to try and repress one old ballpoint back in for now and I found out my driver side one was pretty jacked after the wheel fell off a couple years ago so that ones gettin replaced with a new one. Then I'm slapping the arms back on for time being until I can find the correct style threaded balljoint to put in. Steering wheel is in the pre primer stages as of now I should be havin my dad shoot the first two coats Saturday morning so she looks decent for Sunday's show. Do yourself a favor and get the box for a 73 and also do the caster mod. It takes about 15 minutes to drill the holes for the mod since you already have the arms off and the 73 box has a better steering ratio, your truck will handle like a sports car. Ask me how I know!

Man probably would have done it if I had known but already have mine on the trailer waiting for me tomorrow :/ I don't have the time for mods as is with the show on Sunday and my truck all torn apart under the front.

The steering box is just a direct bolt in swap, the 73 up box is 3 1/2 turns lock to lock versus 4 1/2 for the 67-72, the parts store will take your core. You still use the pitman arm from your 67-72. The caster mod is just drilling the hole for the locating pin on your lower control arm to move the arm forward. I was able to move mine forward 5/8". In the link below he replaces the locating pins and drills both holes, I only moved one hole and used the stock locating pin.

Bad news though its been a long couple weeks and I've been mentally strained So in the process of getting everything finished to drive it today. I forgot to recheck my power steering fluid. In turn its either found somewhere to burst through the line or the pump is toast. She was smoking bad last night during the test run with the new box. Hopefully I didn't hurt that as well but she's down again because of negligence on my part. Posted via Mobile Device

Definitely the pump its puking out the bottom (plug??) facing forward of the motor and into the belt slinging the crap everywhere. Lines look okay and the new box Is clean mostly but it's definitely fried the pump I believe. Which means I either have to bust ass to get everything pulled and changed or miss graffiti and pull the motor and swap early. not a good revelation.

Well Definitely burned up the seal on the pump. (Third picture shows the crank/seal portion that burned up) Rented another pulley puller kit from Oreilly's. (Great service and rental BTW wanna give a shout out to them rented tools for free basically and always being helpful.) So I got home pulled the pulley with great effort as it was a powdercoated part and did not like the fact that it had to come off nearly as much as I did. But eventually she came off I didn't have to undo my shroud or my fan and was able to finagle my way in there to get the bloody thing off. Pulled the line from the pump and viola off my pump comes.
In the pictures you can see a close up version of my 89 Suburban serpentine belt setup, and for some reason the pump housing was slammed at one point on the backside unsure if that happened under my ownership. Also included in this round of pictures is my nice and (at the time) clean power steering box with the new ragjoint and all, alo a sneak peek of the first round of black primer on my wheel (same primer was used on my truck and boy does it lay down nice and smooth can't wait to wet sand it and get another coat as my father is laying down the paint this time. P.S. Should be getting my new pump and possibly a new high pressure hose tomorrow depending if the parts are readily available. We shall see P.S.S. In other words slapped the other new power steering box on the 71 and she drives like a dream!! no play in the wheel at all as it should be.

All together been testing the drive for the past hour or so and it feels darn good no slack and everything feels great and seems to react great no slop no fluid everywhere taking a breather tonight and gonna wrap up some goodie items the next couple days preparing for the big parade/show this weekend. It'll be my third year running the graffiti classic weekend events. Can't wait

Just some button up work tonight even though i spent about 4 hours doing nick nack things
Finally after a month of having the left upper tailgate trim on and the truck being down and myself being Clip less because of those darn faulty china made parts I managed to attach the RH upper trim to the tailgate looks so much better and finished off and here's my little build up of it. 1. Starting off by lining up the trim straight to the tailight bezels with masking tape and using the Big Red Book I grabbed so decent measurments and just rounded up or down to a solid number instead of their super exact ones. 2. Snap punched the hole starting points and began with a smaller bit just to pilot it for my step drill making sure to check the outer clip size as it's smaller than the actual ones that hold it to the center of the gate. The larger ones I ended up drilling out to 3/8's and installed them to the trim first. 3. Using my needle nose pliers I squeezed the ears gently as they are fragile but just enough pressure will allow them through the holes afterwards using a little pop of the hand you can press them all the way through to lock on the inside of the gate. I also used a nickel to persuade the inner most one on as the clips tend to contour to the hollow backside of the trim. Both pieces are plenty tight on the gate and I don't see them falling off anytime soon .

I also got my Glove box emblem mounted up again I used the Big Red Book to get the correct placement of it
1. Started off by lining up the vertical center of the door then lined off the horizontal plane 1 1/2" above the raised bead on the door move over a bit from center then space 3" apart twice for the other two holes to the right of the that. Make sure that you watch the size you are drilling as this emblem presses on with over sized push on clips since it doesn't go all the way thru the door. And Viola you have your new emblem well Cheyenne Super anyways I'm unsure if the other emblems are different lengths apart for the studs like say the GMC Custom or a Deluxe. Don't mind the Tweety much as it was on the truck when I first got it and has kinda grown on me as I've "De-Yellowed" Newtype over these few years.

One last update I saw that Hector (Original-71) placed these awesome original-looking raised surface GM badges on his door jambs (jambs will be re-done some century and new stickers will be placed again) and I just had to do the same to spruce up the obviously mis-colored jambs I also added a service sticker to the driver side. These 3M stickers really pop when you open up the door and I know it's not a factory kind of thing but it's a nice twist to me

I'm not so sure yet on the wood grain for the cluster and glovebox that may be a little much for my taste. I was never much of a fan of the wood grain but it may grow on me someday.
