Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Lost my storage for the 63 yesterday, The new owner of the building where the truck has been stored for years called and wanted it out immediately. Not even a days notice. Ended up in the driveway yesterday in the rain. Called around while the truck was getting soaked and found a place for now, till the new garage is built. Thank God for old contacts.

Took her to her first car show. Didn't win anything, but got a lot of good complements. Mine was the only 60 - 66 truck in the show. The big red truck next to mine won in the truck category.

upgraded brakes - a little too low
Finally got around to the front disc swap with new master and booster.
Went with 2 1/2 inch drop spindles. Previous owner cut the springs more than I thought. Even though I love the rake, it is a little too low. Lots of good comments at the cruisin night tonight but it bottoms out quickly. Only about an inch above the bump stop. And the tires are up in the wheel wells and hit the fenders at turning. Will replacing the springs help out with this and still give me a lowered look? Now onto some back drop springs... |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got the pressure washer out and knocked some of the heaviest oil, dirt and grease off the front frame so I can see all the bolts, lol. Got most all undercoating off the firewall with it as well. Also got the motor parts loaded up to goto machine shop in the morning and just landed me a 4 speed to go behind it. Means I got a T5 I don't need now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
The two notches fit around the two rear upper latch bolts and the they just press in. I used an empty .357 shell casing to punch the holes. Does a real nice job and you get a very nice clean hole.
I ordered the gasket from Grumpys. Was less than $15 shipped and an identical to the original. Same lines and thickness. A real nice replacement. I reused the original clips....cleaned them up and 2 coats of engine enamel. I've got some archived pics from one cortcomp did.....and a factory diagram. I redid all the anti squeak pads on the hood also. Pics on my stepside build thread if interested.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I went shopping for my truck at the local U-Pick today. Came out with:
A new battery - time to crank up the engine and see what happens! drivers side windshield - no more trash bag on the window! two tires - gonna be alot easier to push around with rolling tires. Should get all that installed today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Did these seals get used on the '60 gmc Hoods? None of the parts houses show list for a '60? I did not know if I was missing something?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Those wheels are gorgeous! There was a time I would loved to have had a pair of those on the rear of my truck. I've always been torn though, they are so pretty bare in paint or chrome, but they are also beautiful with 57, 60, or 63 passenger car hubcaps too! What to do?!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I had those upper caps on my 67 Chevelle and really liked them as well. That's what I liked about the 63 caps, they also had the vanes or fins around them. Back in 1967 I bought a full set from the local Chevy dealer for $5 each in the factory boxes wrapped in white paper!
It all depends on the look you're after, but I find those bare wheel centers very attractive as they have gone back to the detail of what I refer to as the "hub cap clip humps" from the previous generation. Having those humps in between the lug nuts truly restores the look to the 1960's. Most of what came later where simply flat in that area, with 4 hub cap bumps. They lost the sense of style that was present in this design. I'm looking forward to seeing them on your truck!

Just made an 8 hour round trip to pick up a sandblaster and a welder from my brother. Never used either before, but about to self teach, lol. If it wasn't 95 degrees rite now,I would fire that blaster up. Will be early morning job for sure.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
That AAW kit is sure nice, and buying those crimpers is a good idea. I used that kit and bought similar crimpers myself. Made the install for a wiring noob possible, and it turned out well. Pretty intimidating when you first start, but it's like eating an elephant, one bite at a time. I did the headlight relay update at the same time.
