Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Long read thru 35 pages but lots of neat motors. I am also starting on a new 292 for my 65 pickup. Just pulling the shortblock apart now to check it out. Cylinder head work was done in the summer time. Lump ports, new springs and the larger valves and a little porting. The machinist was very impressed with the flow numbers this head flowed as high as the V8 Vortec heads do. Now to read a couple more chapters in Leo's book.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Nice eye candy, TJ. Not green or orange like all the rest, but it's your engine in your truck.
Where's the fuel pump? I see a block-off plate where a mech pump goes, and a steel fuel line coming from over the transmission hump. Looks like you have plumbed the in/out of the Clifford intake carb heat by bypassing the bypass hose elbow. Is that a 3-Bbl'd Demon carb? Who's Shorty headers? Strange things.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Wish I could have this one back for my C10. Built it for my no options 67 Chevelle 300 years ago. Lump port head with split exhaust, HEI and lumpy cam.

Just sent my 250 out for rebuild - will have Offenhauser intake, 390 cfm Holley carb, 292 exhaust manifold, cam. Shooting for 9:1 compression. Builder is Baldwin Racing Engines in Friedheim, Mo.

4 barrel 625 cfm demon. Am considering a 3 barrel conversion though but would need a bigger carb I believe. Probably a 750. Clifford shorty headers.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Here's mine. 250. cam, split header, 4 barrel. It will stay for a bit but it will be replaced and used in another car I have. Fun to drive though. Right now there is a 3 on the tree behind it but I'm going to swap in a 4 speed I have.
Here's a short clip of it running. https://youtu.be/xEJjbPWQvZU Last edited by raidmagic; 12-20-2017 at 01:05 PM. |

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
OK, not a tricked out motor, but a very dependable, and in some rpm ranges, torquey as hell 250 inch motor. Damn thing loves to climb hills. It's in a '65, but as near as I can tell, it's about a '69 or '70 motor by the casting numbers.
This was in my truck when I got it. When I replaced the valve cover gasket, was amazed by how clean it was inside- no sludge at all. It may be a Jasper motor ( a motor rebuilding company) , don't know, but it uses no oil at all. I've grown to really like it, especially the sound. Some day I'll doll it all up.

Re: Tricked-out Chevy six cylinder engines
Yeah, that is some fancy jet-engine type plumbing just to a one-barrel.
