Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
I drug this 84 home a while back.
The motor is shot and I don't have a clear title for it. It's in real good shape otherwise so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. |

That is a clean K5 STREET BLAZIN! Good bones to start some kind of project. Title work shouldn’t be too big of an issue to work out. 83’/’84 Chevrolet grills are my favorite of all the squares.
Somehow I missed this thread. Might as well throw the Polar Bear Burb in the mix. How he looked when I brought her home in Oct 2011 While giving the interior a major cleaning. Factory stick shift truck! How she looks now NV4500 swapped in This is going in to replace the wheezy TBI 350 in a few weeks. Updates will be HERE

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
Ya I feel the same way. We bought it in Arizona last April and drove it home. We got it oil sprayed in the fall and kept it washed top and bottom. Just got it oil sprayed again. All looks good. The original paint marker from factory is still on the frame.

Updated pictures. Added a 14 bolt with 3.73, 6 lugs, and disc. Also put a new engine cover on.

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
It's a 14 bolt semi-floater out of a 96 2500. 3.73 w/ gov lock. Slid in new 6 lug axles and converted it to disc. All new bearings, seals, brake lines. Blue torch fabrication diff cover. Had to move some perches around.

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
Thanks! It looks really well done. I guess there isnt a way to do ff with a six lug axles come to think of it.. I probably will have this swap to look forward to one day, but the ten bolt has served me well so far

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
The 10 bolt that I took out was a peg leg, drums, and 3.08 gears. Figured if I was going to complete a gear and diff swap might as well get a 14 bolt. So I went to a u-pull-it locally and started the process.

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
Those drums from the 14 bolt are massive! I'll bet it was handful to move around. The 14 bolt was a sf then?
The swap for the disks..are they gm parts from a nnbs truck? |

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
I got the conversion from lugnut4x4.com I believe the calipers are from a mid 80s gm front rotor, not 100% sure on the rotor. The owner is real customer helpful so I'm sure he'd be glad to hook you up. Yeah the 14b is a semi-float and yes the drums weighed a ton.

Here's my hoopty, 79 K5 Blazer, 350/TH350/NP203/10b/12b, all original; A/C and cruise control, manual windows door locks and tail gate. She's a California truck but no smog pump or AIR. Does have a cat converter. She's been non-op'd since 2003. She has what sounds like a lifter knock (smooth constant hollow knock from top rear of engine). Got a full tank for fuel from 2003. Shes dirty rusty and tired. Straight body panels. She's perfect. Total investment, including new Craigslist tires and a new ignition lock cylinder, and a uhaul trailer rental to get her from the previous owners house to mine, under $1,000. She's been parked at my house waiting for my time and dollars. I recently got engaged and switched jobs so after a few weeks of catch up I'll be replacing lifters pushrods and rockers and then the fun begins. Powerplant swap is in the future. Either a 5.3 LS or a 6.2 diesel (to swap to diesel at the DMV, plans for a 4bt swap later down that road, if that is the road I choose.)

Re: How about some pics of "4x4" Blazers, Jimmy's & Burbs?
Was cruising craigslist early this morning and ran across this 85 Jimmy at a crazy price, listed pretty much in the middle of the night. Went over as fast as I could and now it's mine. Little rust in the drivers rocker and bottom of passenger front fender but very solid otherwise. Gotta fix the transfer case as it sheared off the selector rod flush with the case.
