Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

The core is the same i guess it says. The core width is about 1 inch wider. Maybe i will install it sunday. Or atleast take the old one out and see what will be needed to make this one fit.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

The fans and shroud came in tonight. The only prob is the holes in the fan shoud where you bolt it to the rad dont quite line up with the rad. They are a 1/4 inch too long. If i line the two tops up the two bottom holes are off the rad. I guess i will have to bend the ends a bit. But for what i payed i was not expecting perfection.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

If i ever get it in. Have ben working on it for a few hours now. Got old one out in like 5 mins. Did not have as much coolant as i was expecting in it but was not low. I guess i am just used to having to fill 3 5 gallon buckets when draining coolant at work. But i need to find some lower rad bushings and long bolts to mount shoud and short ones to mount fans. It is not exactly a bolt on deal i guess. I wish it came assembled. Hope to morrow i get it in.

that's part of deviating from stock....things aren't always as plug and play as we'd like them to be!

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I got it installed and running. Holy cow does it cool off fast. I have fans kicking on at 210 and off at 185. I can not change the off temp. The only way the efi controlls it is comes on at whatver you set on at and turns off 20-25 degrees cooler then on temp. Thermostat closes at 195 so they never turn off. The air coming threw fans and rad is cold. Any one know what temp the fans are supposed to come on at? Will post pic later.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Stock GM dual fan setups run one fan as primary and the second comes on at a higher temp or when you turn on the A/C. Any way to set yours up that way?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

that's how mine is. has a relay for each fan. fan 1 (low speed) is set for key on. fan 2 (high speed) is activated by the adjustable temp. switch w/probe, or by the manual switch I have on the dash. 2nd relay will also be connected to an a/c compressor one day.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well i found out this fuse is no good. Was at the drive threw light park last night and about half way threw we all smelled a burning smell. Temp was fine. So i kept going. Then afew mins later when fans were supposed to be on i relaized what was the smell. And buy that time there was no place to stop. So i turned heater on full blast and hoped for the best. About 15 mins later temp maxed out the 260 degree gauge. Finally we were at the end. So i punched it and hoped to at least make it home. Temp went to normal when driving and oil psi was at 60 when driving. So i looked at the wiring and found my fuse had melted. I guess it was a crappy fuse. Installed the new fuse holder and bigger fuse. Test ran it for 45 mins fans kicked on and off 3 times and did not blow new fuse. So i will be ordering some water proof fuse holders and relays. I will wire them seperate. One relay and fuse per fan. Both turned on by ecm.

Did you have to modify your motor cross brace to clear the oil pan?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I ran my oil sample today. The only thing that is hi was soduim levels. It says it can be a oil additive or coolant. But the glycal level was 0 ppm. Water was less then 0.1 ppm and no signs of any kind of metals wearing at all. So over all pretty happy and sad at same time......lsx 454 will have to wait i guess.....

Some valve grinding compound added to the oil at the next service interval will fix that.

What an incredible build thread, kudos! I was actually looking for a more stock build up to follow, but this caught my attention and I've been reading it for a few days now. By the way, that dude that said he read the whole thread in 40 mins (a couple pages back) *cough* *cough* bull**** *cough*. Great build man! I'll continue to follow your progress.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

So had a little fun today. Wife was on phone with her dad in the garage when i was backing in. So i decided to let buddy "mark" his spot. So i may or maynot have stomped the breaks and put it in drive and gave it some gas. It would seeem the the truetrac i installed is working perfictly. I laid 3 yes 3 marks on nice concret floor. 2 dark ones from the rear and one from one of the fronts being pushed. It was so funny. She was not so happy about it but the burned rubber smell was nice for about 20 mins. Love owning my own home.
