My Truck is a 1970,
I was 9.
Dad had just bought a brand new 1970 SWB step side.
It was the ugly green my current truck used to be.
He installed a home made camper shell on the back. He did a good job but it was still ugly.
I can remember him letting me ride on the steps.
That was the first vehicle I learned to drive.
It broke my heart when he sold it and bought a F@&# station wagon.

In 1969 my parents were about to have their second child, another girl. Unknown to them the baby girl would have Downs Syndrome, and even thougth the doctors said she wouldn't live past the age of 10 and should be institutionalized she managed to live to the age of 26 before she passed away from heart failure.

In the fall of 1970, 8 months after my sister was born my future wife was born in Kansas. Two years later she and her family would move to Texas.

My biological mother was just entering her teens in 1969 - probably still in the 6th grade - 4 years before she decided to baby sit for her sister's kids and get tangled up with her sister's husband to produce yours truely - an embarassment to the family. Her pregancy was blamed on her boyfriend, and decided to put me up for adoption.

In 1972 fearing that they may have another downs syndrome child my parents decided to adopt a boy. After two foster homes and 8 months of life I went home with them.

...and all the while my dad's 1968 Chevy C10 sat in the driveway. He'd had it for a year.

Considering I was born in 1982, I guess I wasn't even a glimmer in my parents' eyes! Heck, my mom was just graduating from high school in 1972!

You were born in 1982? Wow I feel old all of a sudden. I heard that "feeling old" moments just increase the older you get. Ironic.

1967 . . .

I was a sophomore in high school. Mom just sold her 1965 Plymouth Fury ex-state police cruiser with a 383 before I got my license (it was @ 15 yrs 9 mos back then in New Mexico). She then got a '62 f**d Falcon station wagon with a small six and an automatic. UGH! But I was glad to get to drive it when I could. The next year I got my first set of wheels, a Harley Davidson Sprint 250. Well used, it cost me $75.

I started to keep writing . . . this really brings back memories, but they are most likely not as entertaining for y'all as they are for me.

I was in my second year of college. That was just before I got sick of college, enlisted in the Army and had some interesting experiences in Vietnam. A couple years later I bought a new '72 4X4. Was a good pickup, but I traded it 2 years later for another new one.

Oldest? Youngest?

OK this is a pretty big group. I just wanted reassure myself I wasn't the oldest guy on this list. The oldest person posting enough actual numbers to calculate was 49. But I stopped doing the math after the first page or so. I think some of our Vietnam Vets beat that. I'm almost afraid to guess the age of the youngest pup behind the wheel, but I'd start the "bidding" at 16. So what about it? Who's the Oldest; who's the youngest?
