Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
I think one of the biggest issues with the Cad setups,(aside from core charges) is the constant need to apply the e-brake to keep the calipers adjusted. I think all the pieced together setups have some issue though, some people can't get over no e-brake on the Impala ones.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
My other thought was this: Integral drum emergency brake?
Don't most of the newer vehicle (at least GM) that have rear disc brakes and use a drum brake as an e-brake have the same axle flange bolt diameter as the old 12-bolts...that was my other thought but the rotors for that kind of setup are substantially more expensive.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
I'm in the process of installing the impala rear dics on mine. I got the brackets from Glock35ipsc. I think the caddy calipers are old school. Newer style impala ss calipers fit like a glove. I haven't used an emergency brake yet so I don't see the need for one with an auto. Most of the time the e-brake doesn't work anyway. Glock35ipsc has put alot of time into these brackets and it shows they look like a factory install.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
I agree new is the way to go with brakes. I just need to know if the bracket listed in #86 will work with the camaro brackets before I pay a buddy to make them.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
Well if you are going to powdercoat them like I am going to do it would be dumb to buy a new set and have to take them apart. I will rebuild them when I get them powdercoated. I don't much care for the finish on the new ones. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
The cores can be up to $90 each from what I have seen. I think the least amount for a core I found was about $45 if I remember right. The brackets in #86 are only for the impala ss calipers.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
What year Impala rotors? Are these 5-on-5 if not can they be redrilled to 5-on-5? What year Camaro Calipers? With Impala rotors and Camaro calipers will I have to modify my axle shafts?
Thanks Shane |

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
Just to chime in here. For you guys looking to add the internal drum parking brake on the disk swap, I have seen on more than a few occasions that if you do not use or apply the brake very often the internalls(shoes and clips) rot and fails. They are in a confined space but not protected to well. I have had them fall apart when replacing the brakes on more than one truck. I also find the drum surface is shoot. I wiould tend to agree that if you wan a parking brake I would go with the Camaro or Caddy setup. It's much easier to swap out a caliper than the rotors and all the drum hardware. my 3 cents

As for the parking brake, No need for it as I can see. Majority of the time they don't work anyway. Last edited by Ram-Man; 12-23-2006 at 09:50 AM. |

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
Here is how my calipers looked after I powder coated them. I may go back and do them black, I can't decide if I like the chrome.

Re: Who has Impala SS rear disc brakes ??
In my 20+ yrs of driving, I've only used the emergency brake in an emergency situation twice...... I shudder to think what would have happened those 2 times w/o one.
