Re: 52 Project

I am looking at your front crossmember too. I have a Camaro front clip no my truck right now (junk). I have another frame that I going to buy to replace it. I plan on running a Mustang II set up. It looks so much cleaner!

Re: 52 Project

I did a little work yesterday...mostly cleaning up some areas that needed some work. I did remove the old cab mount and took a few shots. Kinda boring but I will post them anyway. This was the worst part of the floor replacement so far but the pass side was much easier than the drivers side...probably because I knew what I was looking for after doing the drivers side. The silver paint on there is the POR15 that we coated the heck out of because after we install the cowl panel you can't get to it. I am hoping to get on the floor in the next week or so but I am still waiting on some parts before I can start.

Re: 52 Project

I went down to dad's today for a couple hours and got the cab mount in on the pass side. Here is some pictures in a step by step form...might be boring but I wanted to show the steps that I did so if someone else is going to do this then it might make sense.

The first thing I did was to grind the mating surface to make sure that is was flat. Then I used weld through primer on that surface of the cab mount.

I then went to the cab and ground the area where the mount was going and prime that area also.

The third picture shows the spacer washers that I used to space the mount up off the frame.

Picture 4 and 5 shows the mount clamped to the frame and the rocker panel.

Re: 52 Project

Here are some more pictures.

Picture 1 shows the cab mount tacked to the upper part of the of the rocker. There is a small gap at the bottom because of the way the original rocker is made.

Picture 2 shows the gap closed up by the hammer method...lol. That is what the guy at *****in told me to do and it worked great. Sorry about the blurry picture but you get the idea.

Picture 3, 4 and 5 show the finished cab mount in different views. I still have to weld the bottom but I can do that when I get the cab off the frame. I left the spacer washers in there to help support the mount while I get the floor sections welded in.

I am going to do the drivers side next weekend the same way and hopefully the inner cowl panels will come in this week so I can finish the floor. I have to weld them in first before I can lay the floor.

Brian,

FatMan Fabrications makes a complete mustang II front clip. This would allow you to cut the camaro clip off of your truck and weld the MII stub on. This would probably save you some time from having to redo the entire frame.

Re: 52 Project

Solid, I took a couple shots of the tranny crossmembers that we have. The first one is the original with a home made tranny mount. The second is the CPP (I think that who's it is) and the third is the Progressive monster. I just laid the pcs out for that and it still need to be welded together.

Re: 52 Project

I am planning on doing some more stuff this weekend depending on the weather. You might want to get your new floor before cutting out the old one because it comes with the braces that you are going to need to support the cab. Other than that good luck and have fun.

Re: 52 Project

I got a little work done on the truck yesterday. Seems like I only get a few hours to work on the truck these days because of several other projects going on. I got the inner cowl panel fitted for the drivers side and probably will work on the pass side this weekend. I am planning on opening up the holes and plug welding them on. These have been more work than i had planned on...probably just getting to picky . Here are a couple of pictures.

Re: 52 Project

Solid, Yeah that is a *****in firewall and front floor kit. The back half is in good shape so we only went with the front half of the floor. I don't know if it will fit a 700, but I can tell you in a few weeks how it fits a 400....ok maybe a couple months..lol. I forgot all about getting you the measurement on the front axle centerline. I won't be able to make it out there for a couple of weeks if you still need it I will try to remember to measure it for you.

Re: 52 Project

Fordet the measurments, I had some help with the numbers and they are within 1/8" +/- so I went with them.
The only question I had was the rear bump stops C/L and 116" to the front axle C/L this did not measure out correctly, -1". I did check three other measurments and they we close enough for the girls we go with!!! Next measurment will be the motor mount placement, W/O the cab in place, I am hoping I can so it from the rear crossmember mount forward to engine mount, and then set the angle!
You are making good progress, what brake kit are you using?

Re: 52 Project

I still need to relocate the motor so that won't be for a while. We are using the MII setup from Heidts on the front and Wilwood on the rear. We still have a ways to go before we get to the brakes. Hopefully there won't be too many problems with the brake system but I won't know til I get there.

Re: 52 Project

Thanks Cal and Daniel. I think my dad was getting a little impatient with all my cutting and fitting but it really came out nice. I think he will be impressed with the final outcome.

Daniel, I am going to take it back apart to do the welding and I will try to get some step by step photos for you. I got a little ahead of myself and missed some shots. If you have any questions let me know.
