Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
Berencam,
Sorry to hear about the accident It seems that its usually the dd's who wind up on the better end of these accidents while innocent people wind up in the ground. So between that and looking at the damage to your truck, you know for sure that somebody upstairs was definitely looking out for you. Hope you get well soon. |

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
WOW, You are a blessed young man! I have lost several friends/family to drunk driver's. My brother was killed by his drunk girl friend (driving into a culvert after falling asleep) RIP Johnny! I hate to say I have no sympathy, because the Lord says we are to forgive, but I doubt that kid drove with the intention of hitting you or anyone else, he made a mistake and paid for it with his life. GOD Bless his family, I have an idea of what they are going through losing a son, brother, and possibly father. Glad you are OK, and still here to tell us your story.

Berencam,
I am very sorry to read of your being involved in what looks to be a horrific accident. I am glad to hear you survived and only wish your injuries could have been lighter. My prayers are with you for a speedy and hopefully somewhat painless recovery.

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
You were VERY lucky to survive that! It's usually the drunk driver that walks away and the sober driver that gets killed instead. Ya better do a LOT of thankin' to the big man for this one! I hate to see a classic truck get destroyed like that . Glad you're going to be okay though.
You aren't located all that far from me I noticed! I live on the southwest side of Springfield over in Battlefield. Bobbo (Robert) and I are trying to get a Chevy and GMC truck club up and going here. If you'd be interested in joining once you recover and get everything squared away just let us know. Hope you feel better soon. ...Joe

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
Have you gotten a police report about his speed? Ive seen longhornman's C10 that was hit by a high speed Mazda, and it stayed fairly solid, minus the frame damage. Your WHOLE truck took the impact, seeing as even the bed dug into the cab from the impact running down the frame. I cannot even imagine thet force needed to get one of our trucks like this in a head-on wreck.
Glad your allright. My thoughts and prairs to the family. But no sympathy to the driver. I have seen too many ppl go down due to drinking. And being this kid was 21, prolly just out gettin drunk for fun. |

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
Glad to see you are doing ok, considering what could have been.
Kudos to your employer, too many make you use up vacation or take unpaid leave. (and then wonder why employees aren't loyal either) Always have mixed feelings when the DD does not survive. Sympathy for the family, but, as stated by others, usually it is the other way around. Don't want anyone to die like this, but it seems worse when the DD walks away and the innocent ones are killed.

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
I was reading some of the other posts and have to agree with two things that were said. I've never seen one of these trucks get hit as hard as yours did.
Secondly, it's better that he hit your truck than one of those little import cars with a family inside, and that you likely were put there at that moment to keep something like that from happening. ...Joe

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
My brother's truck was rear-ended last July on the side of the highway. The driver of the other newer halfton said he was doing 55mph. No alcohol involved, but bad weather conditions, and lack of driving experience were two big factors.
sorry for the highjack berencam. Pete Last edited by Shock_Me; 10-25-2007 at 06:27 PM. |

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
3 pages of responses and the thread's not 24 hours old yet. That's what I like about this community. They give you lots to read when you're down and out and got nothing to do but read truck threads and emails.
Like all the rest I'm glad you survived. Am sorry for the other guy and his family's loss. Your situation reminds me of a front end collision when I was about 11. College age guy with a VW van passing another car in the fog. We were in a a Chevelle pulling a boat and trailer. He hit us head on. He survived but with broken legs, broken jaw and concussion (from smacking the side of the boat while he was airborne). We only received broken bones and cuts. There again, GVW had a big part to play in the outcome. Your blue and white truck also reminds me too much of my own toy. My prayers for a speedy recovery are with you and your loved ones.

Re: just totaled my 69 and almost totaled me
Like the others have said before, you made it Thanks to the Lord and good old American old metal. No pop cans there. If you need help in locating another one let me know. I work 18 counties in SW MO so I see alot for sale. In fact saw a 71 or 72 Cheyenne today. PM me if I can help and again, good luck in the healing process and God Bless !
