I just bought a 1963 and it has disk brakes on the front, but no power..... Is there a lot involve in adding this??

This is true about the 6 lug rotors for the 73-87, BUT you must make sure you have the heavy duty brakes and spindles, the 73-87 existing rotors must be 1 1/4 thick ( the spindles/races are different size between the light and heavy duty.... I only could find 6 lug rotors for the heavy duty brakes.. CPP has them... Maybe they are out there but I couldn't find them....

There are complete kits with drop spindles available on the market from many sources for $500 and up. I think CPP's kit is about $599. I did mine with used spindles, new rotors/calipers/hoses/bearings/ball joints from a parts store for about half of what a kit cost at the time. Depends on what parts you can find or what work you are willing to do yourself.

just did the whole conversion for 150 bucks. bought a rolling frame with 1 1/4 front spindles and 6 lug rotors with booster and a new master. all i have to do is have it aligned. craigs list.org is awesome

classic performance parts. they sell heavy duty spindles. or you can get a used set from a donor vehicle. as long as the rotors are 1 1/4 inches thick they will work with six lug. check your local boneyards or site like craigslist. org. i bought a chevy van frame with heavy duty brakes for 100. with booster, master and pro valve. all lines were in good condition. my a- arms are good just got newer ball joints. and fabricated the spacer bracket for power steering. today i bought a disc rear end out of a camaro that is a little narrower, but with the wider rear tires it fits nice. i have also dropped my fresh built 355 in it. i got quite a hot rod.

Please Stick it where I can find it again. HaHaHa My 6 lug rotors and calipers from CPP arrived last Friday An E-bay Special. Gotta love it!!! Hopefully I will get something done on the 64 this weekend. Using a 71 donor front crossmember and steering parts . Yes-- I know you do not have change the entire crossmember but I wanted to clean and sanitize and paint while I was under there.

Yes-- You can pull the crossmember out with the motor still in place. I did lift it slightly with a engine puller just in case. The 6 cylinder is resting on the motor mounts with just the top frame bolts.

Yes I was pretty sure a 71 would work but everyone was talking 73-87 I was getting worried. I knew Keven would'nt $hit me. There always someone out there proving it can be done. Nice job.

Well Hi neighbor! the 71 parts fit nicely, but one bolt hole in the frame needs a little elongating to the rear by about 1/4" (the bottom front bolt -the hole in the side bracket is threaded already. The other holes all line up. I rationalized that if the entire crossmember and steering components are off a 71, then I can remember that in the future if I need replacement parts

I have a 66 C20. It seems the best way for me would to pick up a fully loaded 73-87 front cross member to achieve a 6 lug disc brake setup in the front.....?

IMHO, yes. I'm fixin' to do that very thing on my buddy's 1966 C20 next Saturday. We're swapping the crossmember from an '83 C10.

Trouble in paradise guys
The 63 gmc xm dropped out easy,but when I went to test fit the 75 xm to see which holes I needed to modify it only went in after using 2" ratchet straps(1 ahead and 1 behind) to suck the framerails together and still needed a BFH to get it to go in
Did a raft of measurements after the body was removed and came to the conclusion that it's not tweaked,bent or twisted.
So what gives????
I'm going to do some comparing today to see where the differences are.
This has me scratching my head after every thread I've read on this subject stated that
it was a pretty easy swap.
any ideas??
