Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )
For those of you that think what you saw of Boyd on TV was really who he was I offer you this quote from Todd Emmons, of Boyd's garage:
"I had taken a quick walk around to see some of the cars and when I returned he asked how it was. I made the comment that some of the cars really didn't belong in a car show which quickly brought a response from Boyd. He told me " these guys work hard on their cars and they are proud of them, that's what matters, and it is not for us to judge them but to respect them for the hard work and effort it takes." He of course was right and I knew better....

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )
He was a great guy, if any of us has as many mourners as he does haters (I imagine there will be thousands of mourners) we will all have had a good life. He was an inovator for an entire industry, he set trends and helped to shape the face of hot rodding as we know it. You are judged by those you touched and inspired, he did that many hundreds of thousands of times over again. RIP, I consider myself a better person for having spent a few hours shooting the breeze with Boyd and his wife, they are great people. We talked about the painter that quit them to go to work with Foose, they said he was like a son to them and lived with them for quite a while and that they were truely hurt that he would do that to them.

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )
Quote:
1. you have never met, 2. Its tv hello do you believe everything you see? lol. 3. He was a huge "spark" in the hot rodding community. Even if you believe every thing you see on tv you have to respect the influence he has had on our hobby. and popular culture for that matter. I bet if you look through just about any car/truck magazine, you would be hard pressed to not find at least one thing that Boyd had something to do with. As in own peices or the influence he had on someone else who was building hot rods as well. Therefore you people need to mellow out. I personally did not care for some of his work, but I realize the influence he has had on this hobby/industry as a whole. Rant off I am truely saddened by this loss of a great car guy.

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )
abebummy26, well said. Boyd Coddington, like him or dislike him, he was still a very important part of this addiction that we all suffer from and enjoy, of hot rodding and custom cars/trucks. Never meet the guy, and im not going to pass judgement on him.
Anyone could be made out to look like an a$$hole on TV, fitting a weeks worth of time in 45 minutes of TV times, yeah youll see the bad parts, but good tv has alot of drama, and that what they showed. those of you who are judging him on just that should rethink your judgement. RIP Boyd Coddington, He will be missed a many, and this is a dark dayin the automtoive industry. A True Legend is now crusing the great highway. |

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )
<---------
<--------- <---------- I met him and in the few short hours that I talked with him, he made me feel as though we were life long friends. He was genuinely listening to me, and gave me a card and hand wrote his cell on the back. I was supposed to call him and stop by the shop a year or so ago, but didn't make it. I foolishly called the number thinking it was a joke, he answered and not only remembered me but told me he was looking forward to seeing the look on my face when I saw the shop! I told him I wanted to work for him in the worst way, sweeping floors was OK with me!! He laughed and invited me to call him the next time I was in Cali, now I was I had gone. I am saddened this wasn't just some guy, I consider him a friend. Last edited by 70rs/ss; 02-29-2008 at 08:45 PM. |
