Re: "Rice Rocket'
Read through your build, looking awesome! I think the truck looks way better with the front painted like you have. Keep up the good work. Thats too funny that they called off school due to the "possibility" of snow. Here in MT, we can have 2 ft plus dump and we still keep truckin, and would love to have 30 degree weather. Starting to warm up though, I need to get motivated and start working on mine...jealous that I cant drive mine like you can. Best of luck and keep on truckin

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Nice build man, I got my first truck when I was in 7th grade, painted it blue, sunk it, went through 2 motors and 3 trans, then finally totaled it.
And at least your geting to drive your truck, my project 86 I drove it twice before I tored it down. Wish I had had more fun in it first.

Re: "Rice Rocket'
heres soem pics of the progress
dad said I should've waited till summer (65* for 2 day) I should've waited till summer. Oh well. I was just going to wire wheel it but dad said it'll wear out the drill ? So he talked me into blasting it. What kind of sand should I buy? Is playsand ok? (cheapo) I bedlined my tank (no pics too tired) it looks good. Dad thinks I should do brush on bedliner instead of paint. My trailing arm bolts were pretty rough. Got 1 Side off. Other side and everything else that has to come off is soaking in kerosene,wd40,and motor oil in a squirt can. I took my shocks off (getting new ones). What should I expect to pay from autopart store? 20 bucks apiece or so. What're all the ports in my gas tank for?!?!? bigest one for the filler. one by sending unit is for the fuel pump line to hoook too, and I guess another one for a vent maybe? whata bout the other 2? What to coat frame in? 1 blast then rattle can 2 blast then bedliner 3 your guys opinion/other If I blast then bedliner, should I self etch primer under beliner or no

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Looks good dude
Personally I like the grill painted body color As for your gas door, go round... square parts look stupid on a round truck And dont bore your engine over any more than it needs... boring over for power is a waste, you dont get any more power really (you cant feel it) & your engine wont be able to be rebuilt as many times & they can tend to get hot when you get the cylinders too thin As for a trans, it really depends on how you drive it, I havent seen you say anything about hauling anything heavy (4 wheelers dont count unless you haul at least 4 of them) so a granny 1st trans isnt anything you NEED, but it wont hurt anything you just wont ever use first gear unless you are taking off on a really steep hill If you arent hot rodding it or speed shifting, then a NV-3500 would do you well, they arent the strongest thing, but you can haul stuff like a boat with them & you get over drive which would go great with 3:73 gears in the back If you dont care about OD then an old car 4-speed would work good too But then again your 3OTT would be fine too, & with a floor shifter they are kinda neat, plus it gives you an excuse to put ur hand in between ur GFs legs lol Just dont rattle can it or cut it up & you should be good Here is my old highschool truck & my buddys burb that he drives to school as his DD Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 02-22-2010 at 03:03 PM. |

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Oh, and IMO when you get the money you should do at least a 2/4 drop on it
But a 4/6 would be even better, just a lil more money if you dont buy drop spindles for a 2/4 My black truck (Sinister) was bagged |

Re: "Rice Rocket'
haha
Yeah I wish I had the coin to lower it. I have it all apart it'd be a good time to do it. Ima put a 2" block out back and chop front springs. For now. It was either lower or move gas tank/cleanup rearend. And I wanted to do gas tank cause it was cheaper and more important to me rihgt now.

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Play sand doesnt work well because it has lil pebbles & stuff in it
If you use silica sand, make sure you dont breath it As for coating your frame, my choice would be POR-15, but its not cheep If yall have a paint gun & compressor, then my second choice would be John Deer Blitz black, you can get a gallon for around 30 bucks Then third choice if you cant do the one of the others would be some brush on bed liner, & I see no need to primer it first Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 02-22-2010 at 03:00 PM. |

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Hey man, like what you are doing so far. Going to have to agree with spray bomb. We use a fine white sand that quickrete sells. works really well out of our blaster.
On my frame we blasted it then I applied a metal etch sealer then painted it black single stage. Which is base and clear all together. But Its what ever you prefer. The John Deere paint is probably the same thing, and it is prob a little cheaper to. Keep up the good work and post some pics when you get it. If you do it right the firs time and you plan on showing it and making it nice eventually, then I wouldn't bed liner it paint looks better and it would be a pain to get the bed liner of years down the road unless you blast it again. Just my thoughts!! |

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Ok I use this truck as a truck. It sees dirt roads/gravel and some offroading haha lol jk. I need something to stick!
Ima about to snap you guys some pics. I like the txture of my gas tank (bedliner). Seems strong. The truck is just the frame and shocks right now (and exhaust). Trailing arms are out. And rearend is out.Truck is in garage so CANT blast the frame. So thats out. The rearend/trailing arms misc. brackets still neeed to be cleaned. Opinions? Anything I can get at autopart stores tsc would be better. I hate to keep my truck down. Its my dd and currently im riding the bus or walking. edit, can you brush on por15 heard good stuff about it. how much do i need and whats it cost? I would like to be able to show it and have it looking aite. So if I go bedliner, I dont need to etching primer. What about tractor paint or something. Dad WONT let me SPRAY any paint in his shop. Brush on only lol. Now the trailing arms/rearend I can do whatever with because there portable. Also, where can I get panhard/stabilizer bar bushings there really rotted. Im getting new shocks tom. from one of the parts stores (would like to lower but financially Im unable to right now). Any certain brand? Also, on all the bolts, is it ok to wire wheel em and paint em and reuse them? Thats about it for now. OH WAIT, When I have my diff. cover off/channgin fluids what should I look for except gear ratio and the obivous (metal flakes borken teath). ok im goin to snap some pics brb
