Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

I didn`t know blocks from 69-85 could be the same. For one thing, somewhere in there the dipstick swapped sides and rom what I`ve understood the truck 350s were all 4-bolt to a point,`75 I was always told, then hit or miss but primarily 2-bolt.This ain`t the gospel, but I believe generally correct.I`ve been wrong before.

Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

I've seen 2 bolt engines come out of light duty early 70's trucks. While the 4 bolts are more common, it isn't a rule like some will tell you.
The dipstick swapped in 79 I think

Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

One thing that the old engines had that the new ones do not is a breather tube in the rear of the motor, I have an original 327 and it has a breather tube that goes down behind the motor next to the distributor hole, frankly I am with the other guys this looks more late model but as for the cid not easy to tell.

Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

LM it must be a type-o, looked again and it also has it listed as a 69-85 truck motor with a 2 piece seal.....but who's to say this book is 100% accurate

Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

I don`t understand how a block with the dipstick on the left can be the same casting as one with the dipstick on the right.

Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

well looking at the heads you can tell they are the "light weight" heads and by the accessory holes in the front of the heads, plus the HEI distbutor, the long water pump, the location of the dipstick, and the fresh orange paint on the PVC i would say its mid to late 70's or early 80's that somebody painted to look older than it is.

Re: who can recognize this motor for me?

acc holes don't mean light weight casting... they mean they were made after 1969. You can't tell from the angle of the photos weather or not they are light weight castings.

1986 I believe is the first year for the one piece rear main. My 86 3/4 has a one piece rear main, its a 305.

You can tell they light weight heads look at the the headbolts on the last pic, and the flat machined area on the end of the head are diffrent then the earlier acc hole heads.
