Re: Members trucks featured in magazines

Magazines area always looking for great trucks to feature.

But as “mudder” said a lot of it is timing. You can have the coolest custom truck in the world - but if your not at a show where there is a photographer (from one of the magazines), then unfortunately it doesn’t get shot.

If you are in Texas or Oklahoma and have a finished custom truck, that has not been in a magazine - I would be glad to try to help you get it into one.

I shot Kens (N2TRUX) truck several years back for Custom Classic Trucks, and I contribute on a regular basis to both Custom Classic Trucks and Street Trucks. I may not be the one to photograph it but I will do what I can if you need help. If you are in the Houston area, there are several great photographers down there that I can pass along your info to.

I would suggest that you first try to e-mail the editor, of what ever magazine you would like to see your truck in, a few photos of your vehicle. That way they can communicate to you, if there is anything that you need to finish up. Please remember that they travel so it maybe a week or so before they get back to you.

Also remember that most magazines are generally two months a head on the printing - so even if your truck was photographed today, it would still be a minimum of at least three months before it runs in a magazine.

Lastly each magazine has a form, called a tech sheet that they will have you fill out. This is a description of everything that you have done to the truck and all the pertinent information. From this the story is written. Getting your truck in a magazine is very dependent on this getting back to the photographer as soon as possible, preferably the same day that it is shot.

I am thinking about traveling to the get together this next weekend in Oklahoma City. Ryan at Custom Classic Trucks and I discussed trying to get the event some coverage in the magazine.

Re: Members trucks featured in magazines

For a real photo shoot that form is about 5 or six pages long. Very in depth. Probably took two hours or better to really fill out. It will also probably have a release attached to it for the info and pictures.

At the time a free lancer shot mine on a couple of occasions. Got to know him a little and found out some really good info. He is the features Editor for 4Wheeler now I think, or was. At one time he was shooting trucks for several different Magazines. He was given a list of ideas for maybe a years worth of articles that he needed pics for and he would look for trucks that would fit the article.

He said that dark trucks were hard and easier if they had some sort of graffics.

I will also say that some shows will have your sign a wavier when you enter that gives rights to your pictures away. I know a guy that saw his aftermarket tailights in a advertisement from his truck. He was wanting some sort of compensation and they said so sad out of luck, you signed this wavier. Something to think about.

The 3 times my truck was shot it was a year or better before they appeared in the mag.

Ok! this shoot for FHM magazine was in June and they wanted my Truck with a Harley and an Airstream to be featured in a sort of post apocalyptic Britain, the girls are from a prime-time TV soap over here called "Hollyoaks"
Hope you like.

That almost better than a feature in a truck mag. Did they at least let you hang out with the girls during the shoot?

I had to be there and move the truck to different spots so I was snapping away on my digital camera for my private collection

Good looking truck! Did John Jackson shoot it? It looks a lot like a lot of his style of shot. I would love for him to take some photos for me of mine.
