Re: My 48 ford shop truck
While this all is going on at home,I took the motor to work to clean it ,re-seal it and just check it out in general before it goes back into the '48.
The motor is a sbc ,steel crank, forged pistons(.030 over),comp cams 292 cam kit, erson gear drive, double hump heads,2.02/1.60 stainless steel valves, screw in studs, guide plates, roller rockers, torker intake, holley 750 double pumper.Your basic hot rod sbc. It was originally built in 1995,but the truck it was in got tore up in a hail storm and didn't get fixed,(the chassis/running gear are under the '48 now).Basically the motor had less than 25000 miles on it,and has been sitting in storage mode since '98.I didnt know what to expect when I opened it up,but had a nice surprise when I did..... Heres what it looked like after I wiped it down with some carb cleaner on a rag..... Its not to bad for a 15 year old motor. |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
I cleaned it up,stripped off the old paint and put it back together. While I was doing this, a strange box showed up with this in it:
Always wanted a tri-power,so here it is.the only thing I did not like was the color of the actual intake itself.I though it should be "brighter".So I made a call to a local powder coater, and had the intake ceramic coated, then a clear added. Its more like I wanted it,and the coating will keep the intake from getting stained by oil,gas or chemicals. Now all that was left was to make the rest of the motor look like I wanted.....so a little more cleaning, alot of masking, some paint, and some partial reassembly, you get the idea of what I was going for..... Now I just have to get it home, and back in the truck with out scratching it..... |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
Have been sanding for what seems like forever, but finally got the truck ready for paint,or at least as ready as its gonna get.Borrowed a enclosed car trailer, and had a buddy help me haul it into work to get some paint on it.
Had another buddy I work with, who is a painter, offer to help me out and spray the paint. So after a very long friday night and a little bit shorter saturday, the truck has paint on it. Its no show truck but Im pretty happy with how it turned out.Its about 150% more "finished" than I had originally planned when I started this build. Got to get it back home on monday,so I can get back to work on it...... |

Re: My 48 ford shop truck
WOW!!!! that truck turned out amazing!!! I never expected it to turn out quite so nice, I do not mean that in a bad way, I just expected a shop truck, not a show shop truck. Great job on it!!!! Definetly one of my favorites!!!
