My version of the s10 swap

Be very careful when putting those side windows in or maybe get a pro glass guy to do it. They are really tricky.

Some more work on the cab. Last weekend a buddy came over and helped me take the box off the truck. I was then able to strip the rest of the back of the cab and get ready to cut in my other window.



The second one was definitely easier than the first, mainly because I had a plan. This one needed a little rust repair in the belt line, but nothing that slowed me down much.







And it's now officially a 5 window cab!

I still have to install the inside panels, but it's currently too cold in my garage for the POR 15 so that'll have to wait a bit. I have other rust repair that I can do in the mean time. My date with the sandblaster was postponed due to weather, so now I have some more time to do additional welding before the cab is blasted and epoxy primed. More to come!

Kabwe, when this one is done my dad has a 55 2nd series that is in need of attention, so I'll continue to reference your build going forward. I think it need's a pancaked hood....

I wasn't posting yet because I don't have any pictures....

Parts of the cab, the running boards, and the box were sandblasted. The cab and doors are in epoxy, and the bed and running boards may be epoxied next week. I'm getting 2nd hand updates (it's 3 hours away), and can't wait to get it back so I can start welding in new metal. Plans include both cab corners, one inner cab corner, the driver's side complete outer cowl, the lower section on the passenger side, the kick panels, welding most of the firewall holes shut, filling the radio hole in the dash, and installing the inner panels for the 5 window conversion. That should keep me busy for a little while. I'll have it back together, likely in just primer, for the 4th of July again this year.

I love the old school look and the domed glass lenses. I probably would have ordered the black ones, but my wife said the beige looked better so here we are.

I also picked up this from a guy I met at a local show. It's a little scratched and scuffed, and the 2nd and 4th bars are dented and I'm in the process of trying to straighten them:

How did the gauges turn out, I was looking at the same ones. Do you have a source for them and did they come with sensors?

If you order from one of their distributors it's cheaper than ordering direct, so I ordered through a semi-local dealer. Yes, they come with sensors and a gas tank sending unit.

Glad to see someone else putting the 3/4 ton on the extended cab s-10, love what you've done, I have a question if you can remember back to when you cut the running boards and splash gaurds: how much did you cut out of each to make them match up, I haven't gotten to that point yet, but figured that I'd ask since you've already made it that far. Appreciate any info.

Those were a custom feature, you'll have to work directly with New Vintage to get that set up. It was about $200 extra.

If you place the cab on the frame EXACTLY in the same spot as I put mine, you can shorten the bed 2.375". If you put it somewhere different, this measurement will be different. And, technically mine's a 1 ton (with a 3/4 ton box) on an extended cab frame...I didn't want to cut down my mint condition 9 foot bed.

I sandblasted it at my dad's shop in Spencer. As you can see from the pics most of my cab was stripped by hand, just did the floor and the hard to reach areas. But, I did manage to put some ripples in the back wall of the cab that I'm not happy about...so now I get to learn how to do some shrinking. I talked to a media blaster in Alta, but they couldn't guarantee that would get rid of the surface rust which is what I wanted, so I gambled with the sand.

Time for some updates.

Here's my crew. Myself on the left, my buddy JR on the right, and my twin 3 1/2 year old boys who constantly remind me the daddy has a "broken old truck"!!



Here's how the truck looked as it left my garage in the end of February:







And here's how it looks tonight:





And if you look towards the back of the trailer, you can see the bed in bare metal:



Now I have a lot of work to do! The inside, underneath, and hard-to-reach, and crusty areas were sandblasted. The entire cab, and the underside of the bed were then shot in SPI epoxy primer, 2 coats.

Next on the list are all the rust repairs, as well as welding up the holes I don't want anymore. I feel so much better knowing that I'm starting with a clean slate and it's now 100% (or as close to that as I could get it) rust-free!

I'll probably post some more pictures tomorrow night when I get it out of the trailer, but I'm excited to get going on it. The bed is bare metal because it has 60 years worth of use that I'm going to practice straightening. I've even got a shrinking disc I want to learn how to use...so fun times coming up.

A big thanks to my dad for organizing all the primer work, helping with the blasting, and for installing e-track to the inside of his trailer to make hauling my stuff more convenient!
