Unhappy Re: Wreckers are so AWESOME.

My buddy in Wi. has his Dad's old '69 (?) Chevy wrecker , he told me it'd 100 % rusty junk , was worked to death then junked on the farm .

I asked him if anything was good he said no , they're ging to crush it I guess =8-( .

Certainly NO ONE is going to travel there to save it .

Installed a sawed off bolt so that I could put the winch in freewheel. Works nice with a jack handle from my 07 gmc.

Sorry for the sideways pic

Re: Wreckers are so AWESOME.

It's popping and backfireing out of the drivers exhaust. It either ate a value or jumped the timing. I'm going to pull plugs and check compression

Re: Wreckers are so AWESOME.

What kind of winch do you have? Search the internet. Many companies still provide parts and there are places that have supplies scattered around the country.
I'm looking hard at going ahead with keeping my tow truck. I really like that thing and only wanted to sell due to hard times. Things aren't that great, but I've gotten by w/o selling so far. I haven't tried in a year or two,but people call from old listings on the web. They call all excited saying they're gonna do this and gonna do that. So far I've never had anyone actually come and look at it.

Re: Wreckers are so AWESOME.

I tried a couple times to sell this one, but it really is handy to have around.
I've searched for a new roller, but nothing found under Holmes. Probably have to have one made.

Re: Wreckers are so AWESOME.

You have to see what company made your winch and go from there. Such as,mine's a Braden winch. What you'll find is many older companies fall under one or two companies now.

Re: Wreckers are so AWESOME.

I would think you could find a new one. Just measure the shaft diameter and pulley diameter and do an internet search. You could check some old junkyards or scrap metal yards. A lot of old wreckers get scraped just because nobody wants to fix them. Last week I just bought a 78 F350 wrecker with a Holmes 480 bed on the back from a local scrap metal yard. I definately didn't need it, but the bed was perfect and I hated to see it get crushed.

They get alot of wreckers in at the EZ pull here. Those pulleys are quite common so will interchange from many years and models.

If I see any on my next trip, I'll grab one and let you know.

I better ask the diameter and hole size just in case.
