Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Today I dug out a couple of my old 16.5 slots and rub on em a little to see if I could bring a little shine back, they've been buried in the shed for a few years now. As of now I'm still not sure what wheels I'm gonna run on the old truck.

I do know one thing, I really dig old school slots!!

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Today I tossed the 16.5 slots on the truck and removed the coil spring spacers I forgot I put in the rear many years ago.

After puttin these wheels back on I've decided I'm just gonna stick with these instead of the 15s I had on before. I'll probly still drop the truck a little but not as much as I had previously planned.Probably end up doing a 2/3 drop.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Well, today turned out to be halfway decent and the sun was shining. So I Knocked all the old bolts cut off bolts out of the bed and put some new ones in there. I also cleaned the 5 years of accumilated junk out of the cab and found my super racy go fast red shift knob I had thought I lost a long time ago, yeah I put it on.

I also looked a little closer at some of the issues I'll have to fix on the bed, I guess I could use the practice at body work since I'm not to good.

A couple pics from today.

Some of the in cab junk just ended up in the bed.

Man them slots really look B!tch!n

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Today I bolted on the stock intake/exhaust manifold on the 292 but tomorrow I'll probly just pull it all off again, cause I found all the 4bbl linkage I had been missing. It was tucked way up under the seat in the truck. Who'd thought to look there. anyway I put the 4bbl on the Cliffy and got everything situated, Its still gotta come back apart so I can put it on after the motor is in the truck. I also dug out the old headers too. BTW just for giggle I priced the headers and Cliffy manifold I got and about fell on the floor. Over 500$ for the headers and over 300$ for the manifold!!!! I'm sure glad I did'nt have to buy the stuff new, I got it all on a wrecked parts truck I paid 150 bucks for, the truck also had the buddy buckets also.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Not much to report today other than tried to get the brakes pumped back up and blew the long steel line that runs along the frame to the back of the truck.

I spent most of the evening converting one of my tractors from winter mode to summer mode, and I waxed it.

Winter mode

As of tonight

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Had a pretty big day on the old truck today. I got the tranny pulled then I got the old 230 pulled out and started swapping a few things and getting some parts cleaned up. Tomorrow we'll powerwash the engine bay and get the big 6 in there and get another tranny in there too.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

GOt the 292 set in there on Sunday and got most everything hooked up except the intake and headers and I still have a small transmission conundrum. The SM420 I was planning on using has a cracked case that I noticed as I was about to slide it under the truck. The Tranny I pulled out has been abused heavily and has a real sloppy shifter. I was just gonna swap top covers and go but when I pulled the covers I noticed 1st gear was chewed up pretty good. The transmission with the cracked case is like new inside so I was thinkin I might just swap the internals.

Thoughts, Opinions on the transmission issue.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Well got a little more done tonight. Got the tranny in got the intake and headers on after I straightend the header flanges, I forgot how much of a pain in the butt putting the headers and intake on were, the ball stud for the Z bar was also real fun to get in there and bolted up with header tubes everywhere. I also had to adjust the clutch linkage as I used a different style clutch. The clutch I used is a big 12" er and has a lot more pedal stiffness after I got it adjusted right.

Hope fully have it running by this weekend. Still gotta get a few things.

Couple pics

This is the crack in the transmission case I mentioned.

Still gotta get some hose clamps and other stuff but heres a nifty 292 stand

Startin to look like somthing

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

IT RUNS!!!!!! After screwing with the timing and swapping dizzys I got her running seems to run real good but I got to pull the intake and headers back off to realign em as I got a horrendous exhaust leak on the 4-5 flange.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Well I drove it for the 1st time in 5 years tonite, although it was just around the block. Anywho, the Cliffy and headers are coming off tomorow cause I'm having a few issues I need to take care of before it will be reliable with em. So tonite I prepped the stock intake for paint and painted it and the linkage setup.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Well plans have changed again, Gonna be rippin the 292/sm420 out and in it place will be a VE fueled 12V Cummins and NV4500. Were also going to build a simple flatbed and run duals.

I've always thought about goin this way with it but never had all the parts collected or had the means to do somthing like this so..

And after driving a healthy Cummins for the last 6 years I know I wouldn't be happy with a 292 or really any other motor for that matter.

I was thinking the same thing on the flat bed. I really liked the look of it before you put the fleetside back on. The 8 lug set up with a flat bed just seems to fit better. Good luck with the build

Well, I havn't done anything with this truck for a while except haul it out to a buddys place as the town was on my ass about it, most of this last year was spent fixing and doing upgrades on my Dodges. However I am itching to work on it again.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

So we've been scratching the itch again. Worked on it last sundy to figure out why it had a miss. Figured out it needed a new distributer, the old one had tons of slop on the gear and it also had wore out bushings. We also did new plugs and cap and rotor I also rebuilt the carb. Runs so much better now. I think this is the strongest 292 I've had.

I've decided to blow my whole tax refund on this truck, Starting tomorow were placing a big order with Classic parts and I'll also be ordering a seat cover from Truckseats for the bench we just picked up last night.

I figured I'd get it drivable then we will focus on the interior. Gonna end up doing a white vinyl seat with houndstooth inserts, parchment door panels, visors, and head liner then black dashpad and carpet. The exterior will go poof can satin black like my old Dodge dually but I'll do an off white or white 67 style roof. I will then work on the body off and on through the summer.

Seat I picked up.

New dizzy and freshly rebuilt carb.

After we get it back home we will strip the interior and do a little refresh. It needs it
bad.

Re: 67 C-20 Build, My High school truck.

Welp, today I pulled the old rusty brake line off and then stopped off at the part store to get some line a union, brake fluid and stuff for an oil change. After I got home and ate I then went to Omaha to pick up some interior parts. Tomorow we will bent the new line into the correct shape (we hope) toss it on and bleed the brakes, might do the oil change also.

Man i'm gettin exited to get this old thing back o the road, been 7 years sice it was road worthy.

Heres the interior parts I picked up tonight
