I can't add much to that. I just finished reading your build thread, and all i could say is damn. Kudos to you for taking on such an ambitious build. I know quite a few guys (probably me included) that would see that rust, and lack the courage to move forward. It's awesome to see the truck is well on it's way to driving again. |

its mounted on a 2007 f250 power stroke 6 speed frame and firewall. cut the floor and firewall out of the chevy and cut all the body off the firewall and frame of the powerstroke then welded it together. just finishing up all the plating between the two. i plan on cummins shaping the power stroke out in the future but will get some miles out of the 6.0 for now.

here are the last ones i took of it today. how well the motor fits under the hood, the chevy cab welded to the power stroke firewall, and a overall shot of the interior.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
the end goal for now is have it complete enough to drive by tax time. going to patina the front fenders and the doors to match the truck for now then this summer do the bodywork. i have a ton of things to do it runs and drives right now but thats it i have to finish all the metal grafting between the two and all the pedals over 6 inches to line up with the steering wheel due to the chevy being almost a foot narrower than the ford. mix the chevy core support with the power strokes. also have to figure out were all wires inside the cab will go gauges ac heat raise the seat up 4 inches you know all the small tedious things that take time and all the effort. My biggest thing to drive it is getting the interior done so i can put the windows in. I will post pictures of all of it and hopefully after all these years and transformations actually finish it this time.

That's cool! You don't see many 6.0 6 speeds and this is a different swap because lots of people can't tolerate 6.0s. Nice work!

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
yea the 6.0 isn't a cummins and i don't expect it to be. but it already has a new turbo head studs EGR upgrade all the things that make the 6.0 suck so i think it will be fine.
bonus is how tightly packaged the power stroke motors are made the swap a lot simpler due to the stubbiness of the f350 from packaging |

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
Just put a SCT on it with a good tune and it'll be right there with a cummins. Just don't push it too hard.
And yeah, they pack them in there tight for sure.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
to explain how i joined the f350 firewall and floor to the chevy i cut the rockers off the F350 floor until it matched the inside dimensions of the chevy from step to step i then plated the ford floor ends with 1/4 plate and welded that to the steps. then cut the excess off the top of the steps to fit the contour of the ford floorboards and welded it up. the back of the floor from the ford was about 9 inches too long to i cut it off and boxed it into the back of the chevy cab. the rear cab mount is from the chevy and the front and core support are from the ford.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
tomorrow I'm going to finish the ps plating for the chevy to ford firewall and finish up a few more small areas that need finished on the cab so i can POR15 it and seam seal it to be done with that portion of the build. then its on to the core support/inner fender frames. then permanently mount the front clip on it.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
then i decided to tackle the cowl area which i have been avoiding.
this is what i had to fill made a template and decided to cut it a little shorter and pull up the bottom of the ford cowl when i welded it to gather to make a little more room in the engine bay for future upgrades or service. to make the ford cowl actually be functional and all the HVAC features work like they were intended to i cut the bottom of the chevys cowl out so that the air will flow thru the vent and down and out the side just like its supposed to. once its all sealed i will weld the back plate on in the cab and it will be 100% functional. |

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
started wielding the top then trimming away the excess off the bottom. this required moving a lot of things out of the way then used a sawzal as to not burn the truck to the ground
moved the factory overflow tank will have to re-mount it later Attachment 1706308 you can see the amount i lifted the factory ford cowl bottom up not a lot but it allow me to take the heads and turbo off when needed. |

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
i then had to address the overflow tank mount issue. this is the factory bracket for the overflow/fill tank off the ford.
overflow/fill tank this is what i wanted to trim off to clean it up and make it look less busy trimmed re-attached to the radiator fill tank |

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......
welded the bottom to the firewall and then made two struts for the top
and the finished project too a lot more time than i thought it would but turned out nice need to seam seal it all and por15 it. |

updates
hello everyone,
Been a bit since the last time I posted about this truck and wanted to give everyone an update on her. I recently have put a ton of work in on it and it's about done and ready for paint. I stripped all the body down to bare metal and did some bodywork hopefully in the next few weeks she will be 100% for the first time in 30 years. I will keep the photos coming from now until she's done. here are some photos I also have been teaching my son how to weld on this truck he's not too bad. |
