Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
Nice, I like the idea of the cement footing being up above the floor a few inches. It makes it a lot better when you go to wash the floor off and don't have to worry about getting the bottom of the wall wet.

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
that way of building is kindah foreighn in the netherlands i actually dont know why , we usually make garages in either steel concrete or brick , only small gardensheds are made of wood maibe it has something to do with the price of (hard)wood here or maibe its just rotting away to fast in our wet climate

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
This the first building I have ever made out of wood all the others have been out of concrete blocks, but I only need this one to last me for the next 15 years then at my mid 80's I plan to retire !!
Besides I agree with the three little pigs who taught me how to build a house, I just needed more insulation for the summer 100*+ days and 8" insulated stucco walls seemed to fit the bill. Time and huff and puff will soon tell !!!

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
looks like a 2 floor building if you make one of those windowthingies on the roof like the place bahind it you could make one hell of a nice guest bedroom up there

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
i think a spraybooth wouldnt be cost efficient if youre not painting at least one car every 3 months or so
you can however jerryrig the exaust evac system so it draws away the paintspraygasses and build a big cocoon out of clear plastic and some wood that you can lift up against the ceiling when not in use i seen them use a four post lift once where they put it in the top position drove the car underneath and covered the whole lift in plastic to make a verry but verry effective small painbooth

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
What are the cost per square foot for a building like yours in Boston ?
Are you contracting the entire project, or are you picking up the parts you want to do on the construction?

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
That looks great. I'm feeling a little garage envy coming on, LOL.
Just wondering though, have the people in the house with the white deck in the left of the pic said anything? I'll bet they aren't feeling much love for your garage right now. |

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
You should hang a beam out of the dormer, like the farmers used on the barns for hauling hay bales, etc. up there. Looking good.

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
if he makes it a steel I beam and a small chainlift riding on a dolly on the beam he could raise complete engines up there , if he makes a trapdoor in the 1st floor at the right spot over one of the bay's he could use the same setup to lower it in the car in the garage itself

Re: Building a garage - any suggestions?
I was going to go with the post coming out for hay but am going with a barn light up there. I plan to put in an engine puller at the back of the far right side. The ceiling is 9 feet high to give me the room.
