Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Well lil update the motor and trans are in place. Was pretty happy with how it went but gotta decide on what I wanna run for exhaust. Dunno if I wanna mess with headers or just run stock truck manifolds. Truck is just gonna be a fun lil driver nothing crazy so what y'all think? And I'm thinking of doing some wrinkle black valve cover with cheverolet and red Bowie on them who knows.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

I found a set of LS1 Camaro headers on ebay for 100$. i have a set of manifolds but they hit the frame and the headers seem to clear just fine.

I sure hate to run headers unless I just have to. Wonder if a set if ls1 manifolds would work?

Yea thats how i ended up with my LM7. If i had it my way id have manifolds but they wont clear the frame and i cant find any others in the yards locally.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Well figured I would post something lol since it's been awhile I got the Boyd tank installed the engine and trans needed to be leveled up just a touch so made a spacer for the trans mount and now my slip yoke will clear the ECE crossmember. All I need to do now is get the fuel lines made up, the brake lines finished and a exhaust done and ill be ready for the cab to be go back on. So it's getting closer to lookin like a truck again.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Hey thanks for checking on me lol it's moving slow lately just been so busy flying/work but I have been ordering lots of little stuff I'll need when finishing it out. Cab is on it's stand waiting for paint and body guy to say bring it on. The little crap seems to take the longest I'm defiantly ready for some big milestones. The frame is totally done all fuel brakes etc are buttoned up. I am waiting on exhaust until can is on frame.

Nice build I'm doing a similar build myself.
If you still need to adapt your power steering I have already done the leg work and here are the results.

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Well I have not posted in forever so I had best get on it I guess lol. My wife said she is ready for me to get done and I got permission to dump some money into my project. Frame and drivetrain all done just needs body work and paint done so I can get it back together so off it goes to paint and body. Won't be long fellas!

Re: Harpie's 71 SWB 5.3LS build

Got the exhaust on today. Did not run the tail pipes yet can't decide if I want them out the back with tips or tucked up underneath where they can't be seen. So I'll wait until I get the bed and bumper installed. But if I had my computer and harness back from the shop building and programming it I could fire it up! So now just waiting on that and the body shop to call so I can go pick up the cab and stick it back on. Then they will final fit everything and get it painted.

The transmission cooler. I guess the cooler don't need the lines to the radiator? I ran lines to the radiator, but just don't like the way they look. Will this cooler you are using be enough for a th400? I could change and make mine the same as yours. just thinking out loud. and another thing did you install a cross pipe to connect both exhaust pipes together. Someone said something about equalizing the back pressure of the engine. I am about to start with my exhaust, Trying to get all the information I can.
