Re: Maggie's Custom
Building the notches! This is all I got for now. I ordered these because they were the cheapest I found, they worked out ok. Heres the pictures of the install. I started on them Thursday night and finished them up Friday (I took off of work). To all that have built and, or insatalled notches "great job!" as this is a lot of work!
This is what I started with. Figuring out where I wanted them. I installed them 5 1/2's above the stock frame rail. I tacked them together on the frame, then welded the top piece first, then drilled some holes for a rose bud weld. Inside plate welded in. Out side plate welded in. I have a few more pictures coming. |

Re: Maggie's Custom
And the finish!
The other side went a little faster! The frame cut out. Than I welded in the lower or bottom plates "boxing" it in. I have to slot the lower holes for the track bar and get it back on the truck than I'll start on the rear bag plates!! Thanks Jason and Maggie |

Re: Maggie's Custom
so that is where they came up with the idea of a sideways engine for front wheel drive cars!!! I have always wondered how drunk they had to be when they thought up that idea. LOL

Re: Maggie's Custom
Very small update! I got the driver's rear bag mount done, in my head I'm always going to do more than I seam to get done! My plan after work was to get both sides done, but after almost four hours I got one side done! Drilling, cutting, trimming, fitting and welding always goes faster in my head!! I'm going to do the other side tonight!! In the mean time heres a few pics.
Cut out the lower bag plate. Frame filler. All tacked in place. |

Re: Maggie's Custom
Thanks again! Trying to catch up to you!! I'm going to do a cross brace between bag mounts like you but not much more bracing after that. Next will be front and rear shock mounts, than moving on the mounting the air management system. Think I'm going to put it all behing the cap on the stock bed floor frame just below the new raised floor.

Re: Maggie's Custom
Looking good!
I bought my son a '67 bug project for his 16th. Spent a year getting it all cleaned up and ready and he rocked it for 3 years. Love the Cal Look with the rack, Brandon's had a sweet wood rack, too.

Re: Maggie's Custom
For those that dig vw's. Heres one of my three!
Found it in a barn (a real barn) it had been sitting 33 years! Lowered it, fixed the brakes, and got it running, than drove it 30 plus hours to St. Petersburg Fa. for a show, dropped a valve along the way but thats a long story!! Last edited by jdoisher; 08-08-2012 at 01:51 PM. |
