Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Got the carpet done with insulation underneath. Had to make a flap so the carpet wouldn't catch on the seatbelt. Made the trim out of 1 in alum angle. I run the carpet down the step to help make it quieter in the cab. also made a storage bin in the back upright along with the speakers.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Got the aircondition installed under the dash, Put a shift kit in the trans and added a alum pan while I was at it. also went through the diff. added new bearings cleaned up the possi unit. waiting for my shortened axels from Moser. to finish the diff .
It is supposed to warm up this weekend so maybe I will get the front group painted. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Got the diff narrowed 3 1/2 in per side. Put the bed back on, got the gas tank plumed up. Tail lights on and working. The front group painted and installed
Water temp gauge not reading right , different sending unit on its way. Had to pull the pan back off the trans . I mess up putting the shift kit in, working good now. also got the bumpers installed. Got to repaint the hood and need to repaint the doors. One step forward ,3 steps back. I drove it to town to get the gas filler pipe bent. I ended up cutting it and welding it together. Need to order the bed wood and metal strips. |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
It's going to be pretty darned nice though, Rich.
I haven't even thought about interior / body stuff yet. I know it's got to get done someday but I'm putting it off until I can drive the truck to get supplies. Your interior is setting the bar pretty high. Good work!

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Thanks I appreciate that. It has been a struggle. I got the doors repainted, got new sun visors. Got the front wheels cleaned up till I get the front tires and wheels mounted,
Still need to get the front end aligned. My bed wood should be here next week. Can someone tell me the difference between the 55 and the 57 front fenders. I have GMC cab and the title says Gmc but I think I have a Chevy front group. What I can tell I do have a Chevy radiator support. There was a 57 and a 55 grill in the bed. My 55 hood was screwed up from sand blasting . I found a 57 hood in a wrecking yard. So I went with the 57 grill also. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
The 57 fender is unique to that year. It has a flat spot pressed into it so that the grill can be bolted up from the back side. The 57 upper support bar between the fender is also 57 specific.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Thats interesting, I always assumed 55-57 fenders were all the same.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Got the bed wood done and installed.
Repainted the doors. all gauges working now. even got a horn hooked up. Stuff for my new exaust should be here today also ordered my material to finish the door panels and headliner. Got new tires on my 30 year old Cragers for the front and had the frontend aligned. No supprises there . I have 200 miles on the truck now and it is nice to drive. I will post pictures later this week. Rich |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Hello Rich. Been following your build. Everything looks great and I'm glad to hear that it's driving good. Thats aways a plus. Already have 200 miles on it. Way cool. Mines been on the road a few months now and has about half that, but I'll make that this summer. Looking forward to the pictures with the old Cragers and new tires on the front. I know you'll keep the pictures coming and will be waiting here at the other end of the computer. Great build.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
I too look forward to more pictures, the more the merrier.
Hearing you've got a couple hundred miles on it already inspires me along with a touch of jealousy. Congrats on getting yours on the road. Jim

A couple pic of the exaust, nothing fancy here. pic of ac lines and motor with fan shroud I made from 20 g alum I had laying around.
A pic of my seat belt bracket for the sholder strap. The finished bed wood. While I was under the truck ,I added a elec fuel pump just for backup. |

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Looking good and you get to drive it.
How does the Buick do? I've heard they were an engine with good torque.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Thanks Jim. The Buick is running fine , no problems so far. The 430 puts out 475 ft tork at 3200 rpm. I don't need low gears to make it run. They don't like rpm over 5200 they seem to have a castiron fit. The oiling system isn't the best without a lot of work.

Re: Old Yeller my build 56 GMC
Thanks Guy's
I got some of the material for the headliner pleated and got the headliner to fit making hidden brackets, There won't be any rubber around the edge. I will post some pic of the brackets maybe tomorrow. Rich |
