After a good conversation with Josh @ Ridetech today I have a set of single adj. coilovers,springs etc..... He seems like a great guy and helped a lot. I can't wait for them to show up in a couple of weeks.

Subscribed.. My in laws live near Spring Hill, TN, I would like to look y'all up next time we are up there. Nice build.. Like the coil overs, but I can't make my mind up, but I still have some time left for porterbuilt.

The boy and I just finished up getting the front coilovers mounted up. I have a few small clearance issues with the shock and the lower A arm but thats going to be a simple fix. In the rear i am going to move the upper mounts around a little and they will be on. This is a giant step forward with this project,Its the first time it has had actual suspension since we bought the truck. Lol........
My next big hurdle is going to be the driveshaft. I am no driveshaft expert but after owning my 62 impala I swore I would never run another 2 piece shaft as long as I live. That may soon change. I did raise the tunnel of the truck up to run a 3 inch one piece shaft but after talking with several experts in the art of driveshafts I now know that will not work. There is this thing called critical speed that I knew nothing about. I could clear a 3.5 shaft but they say that will not work either. So my options are a 2 piece shaft,a 3.25 inch carbon unit,or cut the tunnel and trailing arm x-member again and make room for a 4 inch shaft. Decisions,decisions. |

I was sitting here going over what to buy next and was wanting to know if anyone could recomend a good front and rear rollpan?
I am also stuck on what to do for a seat or seats. If I do a bench I am thinking a seat from hand made seat company but I am not sure a bench is suited to the build. My son wants a set of corbeau forza seats with the shifter mounted in the middle so he can shift easy . He has a good point with it being a full manual valve body. Not sure what to do on that yet. |

We dropped the motor back in last weekend.
I had planned on running a pro systems carb but this QFT circle track carb popped up local for a heck of a deal so I gathered it up talked with Quick Fuel and changed the floats for their road race double beveled floats and it should be good to go for now. When I do the fuel system I plan on going with either the stealth 340 or A1000 fuel cell.I have a feeling this thing is going to end up with a Holley throttle body down the road and I will just have to change the regulator. PTC built us a tight 10 inch torque convertor that should be very streetable and fun to drive. Now with the motor and trans is back in its time to make a decision on headers,the headers that PB recommends will fit great but not what I really want to run.I could build a nice set of long tubes or mid-length but what a pain in the rear.I wish I knew what else would fit,I looked at a set of 2010 camaro headers the other day that look like they may work but what a gamble to buy a set and then they do not fit.I would like something in the 1 7/8 tube diameter but would run a decent set of 1 3/4 primaries if I had to and would love ball and sockets on the collectors. |

sounds like your looking for a set of dynatech headers?....1 7/8" pri. 3" collectors, 4 bolt ball and socket flange...I have them on my 86, not sure if they'll work on yours, but I took a chance on them and it worked out.

This project is going slow but we are getting a little bit done.
We installed a new griffen radiator last week and found hoses to fit.We also dropped a piece of hose in a gas can and fired the motor up.I am very happy with how solid it sounds but then again most do on open headers. Now to decide what to do for a fuel cell and exhaust,there are so many options. I know this thing is no race car but if we wanted we could do a tire and wheel swap then raise the rear up and it would handle really well I do belive.So I am not sure if I want to just buy a cheap cell/tank and hope it works or buy a nice Fuel Safe cell or buy a aeromotive stelth cell with pump inside? Then for exhaust I am going to need something small like a glasspack to clear the tube work.I have been going back and forth between the Dynomax round mufflers or the Flowmaster Super HP II? Any opinions? |

Wow! This kid is lucky! Im 17 and just got my first truck. '71 GMC Sierra Grande 2500. But being 13 and already on his 2nd project! Thats just amazing! Man, what I would do to be able to do what he is doing! Keep up all of the work! His 1st build is Killer and this one should be better!

Well the truck starts and runs now and if I had a fuel system and seats it would stop.
This weekend we bent brake lines and got the system up and working,installed a big trans cooler and plumbed it,welded up some exhaust with a set of same side offset 11x9x4 magnaflow mufflers and turn downs for now,made the battery cables from the rear to the front,pulled a couple of wires to the ignition switch and fired the motor up and topped off the trans. While we were at it we stuck it in the paint booth and gave the outside a coat of epoxy primer. I am not going to do any body or paint work until all the bugs are worked out of the truck and had to do something to keep it from rusting. |
