Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
Here are some videos on the Big Bud 747 of it running, transporting it and getting a tire change.

Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
I subscribe to the Green Magazine, it's a magazine for John Deere enthusiasts and the featured model for October 2020 is none other than the John Deere model 435 with the 2 stroke "Screamin Jimmy" Detroit 2-53. Here are some scans I did of the article about that tractor. Hopefully it can be read, there is an online version of the magazine but, you have to pay to subscribe to the online version.

Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
Looks like a good write up. I will read it in detail as time allows. Thanks for posting it. Although I dis-agree with the Production Number breaks-downs. The 435 was made in approx the last 10 Months of '59 and just the first 3 Months of '60 (Refer to my post #69 for what I have learned on it). I also have original JD Manuals and will produced the Numbers the book states when I get a chance to dig them out. They got the total right though, 4626. Great pictures on it too. Funny, mine has a hole in the front grille panel like the one in the 2nd pictures has. There is a tap there for the hydraulic system. Not sure what they were running on it, but it's there, lol.

Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
Great sounding Detroit. Believe it's a 3-53.
My neighbor has one like it. When he's logging out in the neighborhood, he plays that music all day, lol.

Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
That's what I was guessing. I just had this one pop up. Little old Oliver 4wd. This video was made for this thread. I didn't see mention of which motor. What do you think?

I agree. It even sounds like a 4-53.
Interesting tractor.

Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
Thought I'd bring this back to the top with a photo that somebody had taken at the Mecum Auction Inspection day in Davenport Iowa I believe. I belong to a John Deere collectors group and they mentioned that this old girl is one of the featured items at the auction. The John Deere 8020 powered by a Detroit 671E. As stated before they never sold well when they were new but, they command almost a king's Ransom today. They sell for about 150k to 175k today.

That John Deere 8020 with the Detroit Diesel just broke the record price of all time for any John Deere 8020 it sold for $350,000 with a 5% buyer's fee comes out to $367,500

Re: Heavy Machines powered by GM diesels or Detroits
How about the Detroit's themselves? Here's a setup called the quad that Detroit had back in the day consisting of 4 6-71s put together. I Heard that they were mostly used for marine applications. A Detroit generator and, a 12V-71N on display back in the day.
